Major Nelson: Fix on the way for Xbox 360 1080p problems
Posted by XanTium | November 6 18:22 EST

The Fall Update added 1080p VGA-output support to the Xbox360, but the feature is not working on some high-end native 1080p televisions like Sony's XBR2/XBR3 line (you can find more about the issue here). Engadgethd.com is reporting that Microsoft is now working on a fix for the 1080p issue.:
Quote

The company still hasn't said exactly what it believe is causing the issue, although some have said it may be due to either frequency supported by the VGA cable or the way it syncs with monitors, but Major Nelson confirmed on his podcast this morning that engineers are aware of the issue and are working on a fix. The TVs that suffer the problem appear to be some Sony (most notably LCD XBRs) and Samsung models that should be able to accept the 1080p input but as of yet, don't. Affected owners should hopefully have their mere 720p experience rectified soon, but will it be in time for the HD DVD player launch?

Ya and how about a FREAKING "Normal" aspect ratio mode for HDTV settings... 720 and 1080 refers to the VERTICAL LINES!!!!    Give us folks with a 4:3 HDTV some love here!   The games look great in HD, but I can't stand playing them in widescreen on a fullscreen TV.  The TV costs more than the game console!  (Had it before the console came out. Was the biggest TV I could afford at the time.)

My LCD supports 1080p but for some reason I'm having issues using Component cables, haven't tested VGA. When I first ran the Fall update, 1080p worked fine, I popped in DOA4 tonight and it asked me to run an update, I did and then I got a black bar on the right hand side of my screen. Anyone know what thats about? Picture is fine with 720p or 1080i, Thanks!

my monitor supports 720p and 1080i, yet if 1080i and 1080p are both 1900X1080  why cant i select 1900X1080 using a vga cable for 1080i, i mean i can select it but then the image projected is to big for the monitor and alot of the image is off the screen, its an LG plasma

THANK GOD AND THANK YOU MS!

I'm having issues with my Sharp LC-37D90U HDTV not displaying the 1080p signal as well. I'm glad Microsoft is working on a fix I just hope it's not just for Sony HDTV's

There were 4:3 HDTV's produced years ago before the change over to 16:9 HDTV's. I used to own a 27" Samsung 4:3 HDTV which supported 480P/1080I & 16:9 (It used anamorphic squeeze). I know own a 50" Samsung 16:9 1080P DLP HDTV.

d/l xbconnect to see if there are many 360s there.

You know that you can access everything on live (except for multi-player gameplay) for free correct?  Just connect once and DL the update

If I'm not mistaken, VGA will only due a "true?"  blink.gif resolution. What I mean is, component will squash and fit a 1920x1080 image to fit on your 1024x768 plasma(i'm assuming thats what u got, as most plasmas are). But VGA will not resize the image, hence why it won't fit on your screen. Does that make any sense?

yeah for the most part, its a 42" wide plasma and im running the 360 @ 1280X1024 through VGA cable with no image problems, actually looks beautiful, im not sure what the actual native res is though, ill have to look it up

i know what you mean though, 8 years ago i used to use a 32" crt television as my monitor for my pc with an AiW video card and did something with the resolution to where the actual image size was like 8' X 8' and i couldnt find the settings window to change it back
