Bad Cropping
« on: November 03, 2006, 02:50:00 AM »

Hi, i was just wondering why some games (regrdless of ntsc or pal format) has those ugly ugly black stripes. For example F.E.A.R. which i bought NTSC thinking that the bands appeared only on the Pal games (for the 50hz vs 60hz) but i sadly noticed that even the NTSC has a very very bad cropping. I have my 360 hooked on a 17" crt screen @ 1080i PAL 60hz, vga cable. I was wondering if maybe the new update fixes in some way this cropping (like microsoft said long time ago), if i'm doing something wrong and if i buy a widesreen monitor the 16:9 aspect ratio fix the problem by itself.

i hope you understand what i wrote, i'm not english..

cheers  jester.gif

Since you are using a CRT, which is 4:3, there will be bars.  If/when you switch to a 16:9 screen, there shouldn't be any "cropping" (letterbox).  I used to game on a Dell 2007WFP, which is 16:10, so I got small black bars on the top and bottom.  Now, however, I'm on an actual 16:9 television, and I don't see any black bars.

Some games are widescreen only, where others can switch between being 4:3 and widescreen.  If I recall correctly, GR:AW is widescreen only, whereas Kameo and PDZ can switch.
