Does anyone know if this projector is any good? Is in High def?

It's on sale for CAD $699 instead of $999.

You want a projector with a resolution of at least 1280*720 if it is for 360

this one is only 1024 x 768.

-No HDMI compatability
-Not true HD resolutions
-Very bright and not using a darkchip so most likely has crappy black levels
-Square format as opposed to widescreen means you'll loose a lot of your resolution to black bars.

-Lamp Life?
-Lamp Price?

you might want to checkout the
Mitsubishi HD1000U
Optoma HD72
InFocus Play Big IN76
Mitsubishi HC3000U

Thanks a lot for the informative responses, too bad its not HD because its a great deal. I was hoping to get a good, affordable HD projector for less than $1500 but it seems that its nearly impossible.

Not at all impossible , the Mitsubishi HC3000 can now be found for $1500 since it is soon to be replaced with the HC3100 . The HC3000 is one of , if not , the best HiDef projectors available under $2500 (the only other unit out there currently that matches it is the InFocus IN76 which sells for $2000 and up) . The HC3000 was $3000 when it was released almost exactly 1 year ago .

Best of luck ,

As was mentioned earliar have you looked into the price of the actual lamps/bulbs for the projectors?

They often cost $250 just for a replacement and whilst they may have a "10,000 hour life" they are just as prone to blowing as a normal lightbulb is , if not more.

Firstly most front projection lamps range from $200 to $400 and they are not rated for 10,000 hours (generally 2000 to 4000 hours with some going higher) .
Secondly the lamps are not as prone to blowing as a normal lightbulb if you operate the projector properly (now of course there are units out there that could have certain defects which can lead to premature lamp failure but it is not very common and not on a large scale) .

Actually the InFocus IN76 cannot be purchased for under $1500 ( unless you find a good deal on a used unit or it is being sold from an unauthorized dealer which means no warranty from InFocus and even then the best street price that I have seen was about $1800 ) .

you're right, that one is a bit more expensive, but CompUSA has it for $1599 http://www.compusa.c...t_code=51972223
I found it a few other places cheaper but they were somewhat sketchy... CompUSA is respectable though.

I just checked out the HD70... that looks like an awesome budget alternative to the HD72 beerchug.gif
Reading the review it sounds like there are very minor differences between the two.
