Microsoft: 'Xbox 360 Platform Flexible Enough to Support a Digital Con

Consider that there are Component to HDMI and VGA to HDMI transcoders out there and while this would not be a true digital connection Microsoft could do something similar just to claim the ability to do HDMI . I would expect such an addition to be in the $100 range however (the standalone transcoders out there are well over $100) .

They better not release a 360 with HDMI. I'm already pissed off enough as it is with all this news and speculation.

Those HDMI transcoder cost around $400.  But if MS goes that route i'm sure they could mass produce it cheaper.

yes, I noticed the dvd playback sucks as well, with the component cables.. but as soon as I switched to vga cable, the dvd playback is the same as my standalone dvd player..  the cable makes the difference...

The 360's DVD playback just plain sucks, regardless of connection.  I use the vga cable, and the image has horribly low contrast levels.  I still use the vastly superior xbmc for all my video playback.

No actually there are some out there for under $200 if you look around , I just saw one for $180 . But the point is that MS could do such a thing if they wanted and I would bet that the cost of the chips inside those transcoders is not more than $100 (and probably much less if mass produced as stated above) .
