What is your price range?

LCD is a good choice for a TV, DLP is also very good.

i saw this one for 900 and thought about getting it. but i wasnt sure if it was any good. so my price range would be around 800-1000

what you want to do mate is to sit down for a good few hours and just search the net, read reviews, get info about everything before trying to make a choice. I spent 12 hours in front of my comp before i made my decision.

Some things to remember.

Searching HARD will always yeild a good price for a good set

Plan for the future (HDMI?)

Narrow your choice down to a few sets and then read everything you can find on them until you can make your decision without hesitation.

Hard work but will pay off.

I'm just going to back up what other people said, and add some other stuff.

First, make a list of sets within your budget and some general criteria (size range, make etc).

Yeah, plan for the future. Think about stuff that you may buy in the next 2 years or so. Chose an input method for these and and all the stuff you have at the moment. Write these down, and adjust the list to get a new list of sets with this set of inputs or better. Never compromise on inputs.

Then narrow the list down by looking at LOADS of reviews. Try out as many as possible too. Especialy if you can do so with the equiptment you use (xbox 360 mainly) and without someone breathing down your neck.

Basicaly, keep narrowing down your list to one set, and you will be sure that it is the right one. Then check to see if there's a new model just around the corner, and if not, you're all set.

Anyway, i always follow this advice for anything i buy, and am rarely disapointed. I use a Samsung 26" HDTV and i love it. And even better, i bought it from costco, so i can return it for a full refund, no reciept needed, no questions asked. I've had to replace it once before, and they didn't even look at it. Costco rules.

I bought a Maxent 27" LCD HDTV on eBay for $500 or so a year ago.

42" Plasma for $1200 shipped.
32" LCD for $1000 shipped.
27" LCD for $600 shipped.

I rounded the prices. They might be a bit higher, or a bit lower.

The best of the lower priced LCD HDtv's are the Olevia's in my opinion . My advice would be to avoid Viewsonic , Vizio , Westinghouse & Emprex . All of these companies use 3rd tier LCD panels that not only have higher failure rates but do not offer as good techincal specifications either . The Syntax Olevia LT-37HVS is a good example , it uses a high rated LG panel (which is about the best you can do short of spending 2-3 times as much for a Samsung/Sony XBR) . If you want a great $1000 LCD for Xbox 360 gaming grab a new Olevia 537 (37") along with a 360 VGA cable and pixel map that 1360x768 using the 537's 1:1 mode for some razor sharp HiDef goodness wink.gif (you only lose 3 pixel rows on each side when mapping to the 537's native resolution) . If you want to spend less then grab an Olevia 432v from Office Depot for $700 (32" 1366x768 native LCD) . Either way be sure to grab the official 360 VGA cable and use the 1:1 mode , it looks excellent (make sure to calibrate contrast/brightness/etc. properly too) .
