Sorry to burst your bubble, but the current 360 outputs analog, not digital.  Do some research before making false assumptions.

The audio signal is analog or digital. Video is (currently) only analog.

This isnt the first time a HDMI cable popped up. Briefly, very briefly, a few weeks before launch if I remember correctly, a HDMI cable popped up as a listing, then was promptly removed.

my guess is that it is a cheap analog to digital transcoder designed to gear towards console gamers desperate for a HDMI solution.

It is easily proven that component is inferior to even VGA which is still analog.  But the benefit of 1 to 1 pixel mapping from VGA is enormous, images are much sharper.

My TV has a DVI input.  Does anyone know if I would go buy the 360 VGA adapter where can I pickup something that I can plug it into my TV?

I have a VGA computer monitor that I could plug into the DVI port on my video card.  But I think think that adapter will work for the 360.

I'm really confused now, would anyone care to clear this up for me?  First. Component video (480i) is analog. Is 480p, 720p and 1080i also analog? I always thought those were digital singals sent through the component cable...

Second. My understanding was that DVI and HDMI are the same, just different plugs. But with the different DVIs earlier mentioned, this now seems untrue?

And what would be the difference between DVI HDMI and HDCP?

Sorry for the amount of questions, but I think others are a bit confused as well.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

Any worthwhile HD-DVD or Blueray player will also have optical outputs for audio.  The hardest part for any new audio formats will be deciding on an A/V receiver worthy of your $  biggrin.gif
Most displays will not have anything spectacular for audio built in for many years to come anyway.
Only the most expensive receivers have HDMI at this point in time.

There have been 6.1, 7.1 and even 8.1 channel receivers around for years, but how many movies have you seen encoded with any of these formats?  huh.gif

Eh? TosLink is legacy to HD-DVD or BluRay... If I'm going to upgrade, I want my Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD which toslink doesn't even remotely close to supporting. On top of that who's to say down the road, ALL BluRay and HD-DVD disc media will even have a dvd audio track.  "6.1, 7.1 and even 8.1  were over the top to anyone but the audiophile I'll admit, but not a fair comparison to what is and will be the standard for all HD media. See HDMI 1.3 spec.

But alas, MS could care less to support it now... why bother? There's only a handful of craptacular HD titles available as well as no decent players. Wait another year.

Arrghh. Microsft. is. not. putting. HDMI. on. the. 360!

I doubt eb games could influence them to either.  Why they're advertising an HDMI cable is beyond me, since the 360 doesn't even support digital video output...

480p, 720p and 1080i are HD formats, they can be transmitted through various systems and devices that may use analog or digital transfer mechanisms.

DVI and HDMI are interfaces, with HDMI being backwards compatible with DVI. HDCP is just copy protection which is applied to a stream of digital information.

If you mean a VGA-DVI adapter then your set.  pop.gif
That is what I'm using with my 360 -> TV setup.
Just be sure to change the input setting to expect an analog signal (assuming your TV is like mine and defaults to digital).
