Microsoft Employee Blogs on Xbox 360 with HDMI Port

That's is actually an idea I never thought about before.  I know I would actually take them up on that offer if they ever decided to give it.  No use it me wasting my HDMI port on my Sony Wega.  I want to at least get the best image my money has purchased.

Well MS better hurry up and make a statement because this is becoming an annoying topic on every forum I visit. I'm close to importing a US console to New Zealand where it will be a major hassle for me if an upgrade program happens, the result being, I just won't buy until I know its safe to do so.

They aren't going to announce an updated model in advance, otherwise it would kill sales, but I can't see them doing this until a mobo redesign happens. It wouldn't make sense for them to do this prior to the CPU upgrade, so we probably won't be seeing this before next year, if at all.

Here's a better idea. Get rid of the core system. Then add a new high-end xbox to compete directly with the PS3 that has a bigger hard drive, integrated wifi, HD-DVD and HMDI for $599. Continue to ship games on regular DVD, obviously.

Yeah buts thats not the way MS wanted to go, they didn't want to force all the unnecessaries on people. Not everyone will need a bigger hard drive, HD DVD & HDMI and wifi so for those people it'll be an extra cost that might turn customers away.

I don't buy a console just so the manufacturer can flip the script on me and then release a version that has hardware which offers no upgrade path. It sets a precedent and before you know it, this becomes common practice and we all get the run-around.

How good would it be for the scene if multiple hardware configurations with different RAM, CPUs etc were the norm? The scene would be a ghost town. Would XBMC exist? Nope.

If they can't nail the hardware down when they design the damn thing, then we are heading down the dark path towards PCville.

I would be one of the ones who would not bother with an upgrade. The component cables look fantastic at 720p on my LCD panel and I have no interest in buying the HD-DVD add on so there would be no value in an upgrade for me.
The only HDMI port on my panel is already taken up by a DVI to HDMI cable from my PC.
HDMI might be interesting to some people if they don't have a free VGA or component slot but seeing that the image constrain token is not coming into play until 2009 I don't see it being an issue for anyone who buys the HD-DVD add on.
People who have complained about the lack of HDMI on the Xbox 360 are blowing things out of proportion. The Xbox 360 is great for what it is, a high definition gaming device, and in my opinion has the all the outputs it needs. There are no HD panels out there that don't have either component or VGA. Remember that the Nintendo Wii doesn't do high def at all.
It would be interesting to see MS offer a free upgrade though.

Dude chill, they are talking about adding an extra video output, not reconfiguring the system specs.

Screw the whole "drop the core" Idea

MS! Offer Send In upgrades

People who are willing. Send your console (core or premium doesnt matter) and have MS replace the mobo or put HDMI ports on the back (which ever is neccesary) and send them back to the gamer. end of story.

THEREFORE wth this option you still have a choiceand can compete for Future Sales.

and i would expect 50-100 upgrade for this or 100-150 if it comes with the HDMI cord

To me this seems a bad idea, Sony will just laugh in MS's face if they do this. It's a good idea in general, but were not in the 90's. They should just add it as an add-on or make sure they put HDMI on the 3rd Xbox for definite when HDMI will be getting more main stream and cheaper.

Dropping the core xbox like others said is a bad idea, even I can't afford the core xbox 360 with Uni looming. I would like the Premium but for people who know nothing about Hard Drives and Live etc (not me, I know about all them things) are gonna get the core. Offering a high end PS3 like X360 (wireless, HDMI, bigger hard drive etc) is just like copying Sony high-end model and it would end up with bad press. It's not a viable solution in my opinion.

MS should just leave the core and premium set-up how it is and keep making it cheaper, it's a great and fairly affordable set-up if you work. So once I get a part-time job of course I will get one. However if MS keeps changing the sku's it will just confuse and annoy people about the price changes, and them peeps will go towards the PS3.

Wait till the 3rd Gen MS, don't mess this up.

all those thinking you can upgrade Xbox 360...dream on. M$ will lose shit load of money.

IMO they will (if ever) will probably make a transcoder or similar. Expensive or not, itÂ’s for people who need it. Those with HDTV with HDMI on their TV will probably can afford it.

Do you understand the meaning of the word 'precedent'? First its a simple additional output connection, then what comes next? Do you want to see this as common practice?

I disagree ZakMcRofl, DS users can still play the same games that DS Lite users can. Much the same as PS2 owners can still do everything that Slim PS2 users can. With an additional piece of built-in hardware, current owners have no upgrade path, they have to buy again or get the unit replaced by the manufacturer. And no, early adoptors shouldn't wear it on the chin.

PS3 Fan Boy - "My PS3 can play blueray". 360 Fan Boy - "so what, so can mine!!!"

and our core users (that's probably you!) wouldn't felt left out in the cold.

I think you misinterpreted what was being said. By 'core users', he means central users, ie the core of the gaming community.

this is so stupid. If MS does this they are no more screwed up than sony. Why would MS give up their price advantage for the 50 ppl that want this shit. Listen HD DVD/ Blu ray is way over rated and so is hdmi. Why would they mess up their image even more by doing this?

Like i said time and time again.....The console was rushed to market to get the extra ground before sony came out. I could had lived a few more months with out why they added more to the hardware. I do think Hd-dvd and blue ray is over rated dvd is fine with me. But i do feel instead of this addon for a 2nd drive is retarded they should had just built it in side the console. They could had took 2 - 3 more months to add all of these features and still get the console out in time to get enough ground in the USA and Uk.
