Put A Vga Port On The Back Of Your 360!

Great mod. Got it installed with some old red/white 22 guage, headphone wire, desoldered vga female, and a desoldered headphone jack. I had to lower the surface on the bottom pan so I would suggest using thinner wire. This is much better than using a TV tuner.

I used network wire, already twisted into pairs, cut into 6inch pieces for this mod, and made good contact with each connection.

Here is the problem I am having though..
hooked it up to test and signal takes like 3-4 seconds to detect, xbox 360 logo comes on etc, goes into menu for 10 to 100seconds  then the screen kinda gets wavy and cuts out, I did a visual inspection of the points a few times under a magnifying lens and it looks good.  its def not the screen as I dont have any other issues ... I also tried hookign it up to the kvm switch and it wouldnt even pick it up.

Should I cut the length of the wire down to 3-4inches? Whats could be causing this prob?

Also for Optical audio toslink, I desoldered one off an old dishnetwork reciever, its just the piece with 3pins..searching aroudn for toslink guides for 360 I couldnt find anything for the optical but the xbox 1 guides say to use .1uf capacitor ? Do I need this for 360 as it seems direct solder to the legs doesn't work.

Well, I've done this mod (well, VGA port, RCA Audio/Video ports, switch, etc) on both of my 360's, and I used 30 gauge wire. Very easy like this. I paired each signal with it's ground and wrapped the wires, and when video goes to my monitor, it takes up to 5 seconds to sync properly (2.5 secs).

I do remember on my first one, I had used a thicker wire and had problems (occasionally I'd see a mostly blue or red or green screen, sometimes wouldn't be aligned properly). I re did the mod with 30 ga (so points were easier to solder), and it's worked flawlessly ever since. Perhaps your wires are big and a few of them are crossing?

Yeah your probably right, I ended up just cutting it down to 3.5inches from the 6 and its stopped cutting out, I still havent put the optical audio back on there ..think the resistor is needed, cant wire directly to the legs. Nobody confirmed this yet.

I did this a while back.  For video connections you should be using 75Ohm Video Coax cable - twisted pair is not going to provide interference free signals IMO.

Now obviously the big stuff isn't going to fit, so I used some Vann Damme 75Ohm mini-coax which is both flexible and small enough diameter to work (just..).  Coax is a bit of a pain to prep with the shield connector(*), but the results are excellent - absolutely zero syncing problems and zero bleeding or ghosting.

If anybody has problems with twisted pair, I'd recommend trying some mini-coax  ..

(*) Tip here is to solder the gathered 'shield' to a normal piece of wire and use that to solder to the mobo - don't try and solder the shield directly, it ain't gonna work ...

I added rca audio out (digital):

(IMG:http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/5172/p1010557copyts1.jpg)

Even easier than on the 1st xbox, 1 wire less (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

voila:

ps for optical out you also need to solder pin 29 (+5v)
ps2 I do not know what wire i used 8) I used some from an old modchip

should i do this mod or buy the M$ vga cable? I have a 1080p HDTV and was wondering if vga would yield better quality versus 1080p over component. Also, how many people have actually messed up their  360 doing this mod?? how many people have attempted it? at least 20 successfully?

Maaan o' maaan, I've managed to get the great video but need some clarity on the audio soldering points from the mobo to the audio jack.  I have a slightly different jack than that of the tut. Hope I can use this one as well. It has 3 legs on the rear and I need to determine what gets soldered where for the audio.  If I can get this done then I can upload the pics of the finished product.

If you look at a normal male headphone plug, the metal part on the very end is the left audio, the middle is the right audio, and the one closest to the cable is ground.

When you plug that into a jack, the order on the pins will line up with the headphone plug, so the pin closest to the end will be ground, then right, then left.

If someone gets me a pinout for each of the pins, I can make another tutorial for the 360...  Got maxx?

Edit: I see there's a pinout in one of the above images...  I'll see what I can do with it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
