Why do you have to use such thick wire? Could you use 28 gauge wire?

Put A Vga Port On The Back Of Your 360!
« Reply #106 on: April 06, 2009, 08:32:00 PM »

Hi everyone, i have got some questions, very new to soldering.

I am planning a whole new xbox 360 case replacement project, and i personally have a HDMI port on my 360.

The new case will have the cut-out for the VGA port, a switch, and a TOS-Link Optical port. Therefore i am planning best spots to mount them. I also want to add the VGA port to my 360, so i can easily connect it to other monitors too.
1- DEATHBOX VGA PINOUT:

- -( R ) ( G ) ( B ) ( O ) ( Hg )
( G ) ( G ) ( G ) ( G ) ( Vg )
- -( M* ) ( O ) ( H ) ( V ) ( O )

R - Red: RED OUT + GRD
G - Green: GREEN OUT + GRD
B - Blue: BLUE OUT + GRD
H - Orange: H. SYNC   *Hg for H. SYNC GRD
V - Violet: V. SYNC   *Vg for V. SYNC GRD
M - Dark Red: Monitor ID  *not shielded -only single wire

2- Switch at the back for the inversion:

VGA - OFF - HDMI or VGA - HDMI ???

3- TOSLINK Optical port:
"Gerjan: Mar 9 2007, 01:18 PM" says: for optical out you also need to solder pin 29 (+5v)

On motherboard, pin 25 (RED) / pin 27 (GRD) to TOSLINK Connector legs
Kinda of puzzled with this one, its not so clear what goes where, can someone confirm, please?
Do i have to bridge a 5v spot from motherboard to 5v spot on spdif connector??

Will the Optical port be affected by the switch from VGA TO HDMI??

F**k men. i did this tut but the wires wouldn't fit and i cut a piece of motherboard.i don't think this is the main cause but i f***ed up my console . now when i try to open it, the center green led from the start button blinks very fast and then everything is shutting down. the source led turns red the coolers stop and when i try to open it again it doesn't do a thing. HEPL ME GUYS !!!

I think pins 12 and 16 are thouching from my bad soldering. if i did a short or something is a posibility to make my console work again??

WHAT could cause this man ??

Here are pictures with the cut Mobo . they are made with a 2mp camera but i want to show you guys the spot .i took off all the wires from the vga port but the console still doesn't work. Is this good or bad ?? http://s731.photobuc...s/ww315/bobo4u/

I don't know if I can help you out.

I followed your tutorial on how to install a vga port on the back of your xbox. I have everything wired correctly, I know I do. And I have all the grounds wrapped around their corresponding pairs. It works, but my xbox doesn't recognize my monitor as vga, or even that vga is being used. All the lights flash red when the AV plug is unplugged. It has to be plugged into the back of the xbox for the vga port to work. Is this normal? And how come my xbox wouldn't recognize thats vga is in use. I know this because when I go to console settings, I get 420, 720 and the 1080 settings, whereas I should be getting resolution settings. Any ideas?

Its gotta be my cable. I am trying to hook  my xbox up to my 22 inch hanns-g, it should run normally at 1680X1050 or 1250*. Either way, it has to be my vga cord that hooks up the hanns-g. The pins inside are more rectangular than the ones for the 17" viewsonic and that screen it displays it almost beautifully except for the wrong resolution and it says change the frequency, but I think i just have to add my audio and it should work fine. I think its the cable because the hanns-g cable makes the xbox have 4 red lights, while the viewsonic doesn't. Stinks the viewsonic cable is attached on the inside of the monitor. I might have to buy a stupid vga cord anyways.

My monitor wasn't grounding the cable. I never knew what monitor_id low meant, then my dad told me. I have to make a switch so my xbox knows to ground the vga cable so i can use that monitor

I installed 2x audio jacks (White and red) on back of my 360. I then bought a HDMI -> DVI adapter. I tested the mod out on the regular A/V cables and it worked great. When my adapter came, i poped her in and bam! 2$ adapter worked! Thing is, when i plugged my white and red into my surround sound, you can barley hear it when its up all the way. I have the surround sound hooked up to my computer and it can get extreamly loud...but basically, whenever the output is digital, the audio amp cuts off? Is there any way to fix this....maybe have to make an external amp or something?

At the A/V port, connect pins 20 and 24 both to ground to enable analog audio with HDMI video.

Is this possiible on a xbox slim as i tried it with cat5 cable and it did not work could this be because the wire is too thick or something? 90% sure all my soldering was good reasonably experienced with soldering.
Any help would be great thanks

Awesome Tut man, thanks a lot!... but I have the "GREEN" screen, all my wires seems to be ok, I use an old Network cable that i had, used about6-7 inch (mabie a bit more)... Is there any way to fix it?

I read on this and some one mention the same problem, should i cut the wire a bit shorter? is it because the wire is too thin?

Thanks in advance.
