it is the tv not the 360- people have had the same problem connecting computers through VGA. i think it is just a coincidence that it is occuring after the update.

Others (including myself) have seen this before. It seems to be caused by some sensitivity in the TV to very slight ground loop interference. Turning the TV off and unplugging it for a few minutes will temporarily fix it. The permanent solution is to ground all lines going in/out of the TV. My antenna input was the culprit on mine, and since I have an HD DirecTV receiver I don't really need to use the antenna anyway so I was able to just disconnect it.

The only workaround I can see is using the component inputs via a VGA to component cable or going DVI to HDMI. None of the other input menus popup, but could this still be an issue when using the other inputs with a PC? Is there something unique in the PC resolution/settings that would make the input settings do this? It's not like Sony doesn't know how to make computer monitors, It so stupid that they can't make this big TV act just like a computer monitor, i.e. black borders, no native support, and flashing menus. It just started doing it a few days ago, whereas for the last 2 weeks it had never done it. This TV seems to have a degenerative nature to it, must be a software thing?

I was waiting a little while to verify before I posted my results, but I'm pretty sure I found the problem. I contacted Sony and they had me disconnect all inputs to the TV, turn the TV off and unplug it (after the fan turns off). They had me leave it unplugged for 3 minutes, then plug it back in and reconnect the VGA input. I didn't expect it to work more than a few minutes because I had "reset" the tv before by unplugging it, but I did it anyway.
Well, that was probably over two weeks ago now and it hasn't started popping up again. (except for one exception) I think I know why. When I reconnected everything, I did NOT connect the antenna input. I have a DirecTV Tivo HR10-250 and I really don't need to use the antenna input on the TV, so all I have connected right now is the computer through VGA and component cables from my HD receiver. After thinking about it, I realized that the video 7 label started popping up originally right after I had connected the antenna input to the TV to test something out. So...I connected my antenna input and...it started occasionally popping up again. It hasn't happened once with the antenna input disconnected. This leads me to think that it is a ground loop problem, or that the TV is sensitive to very slight ground interference between the signals.
I want to try something that I haven't had time to do. Although all my incoming satellite/antenna cables are grounded in my basement, I was considering putting a grounding block behind my TV and connecting all my components to it. At minimum, I can directly connect my AV receiver and PC directly to it, and I can make sure all antenna/satellite cables are grounded to it behind the TV as well.
I suggest trying to disconnect all your other inputs to see if that fixes the problem for you. You may still have to do the "reset" of the TV by unplugging it.
Funny, when I asked them if they had heard of this problem their answer was a canned "no, this seems to be an isolated incident". But...how did they know that I needed to disconnect all other inputs to fix it?
