if your going to be spending over 300, wait a bit more and buy a good system. When your 16 and like to listen to things loud you tend to blow speakers. Have you ever listened to a blown subwoofer? When you get a system like z5500 your buying something that isnt all that special and when it breaks (which it will) you will be shit out of luck because blown speakers are not covered under warranty.
Upgrades are great, but REPLACEMENT of a broken component is the most importnat part. something like this
http://shop3.outpost...CH:MAIN_RSLT_PG is a far better choice.
Now, neither will be amazing, but the onkyo will be much better than the z5500 could ever become. Also the onkyo can be upgraded. I know u said it was not a plan, but why buy two when you can buy one now?
Either will sound good to most people, but the "computer speakers" are just that, they are computer speakers. They are not going to give you the multitude of connection possibilities that the onkyo has will nor will it have the flexibility.
No offense but do a little research before giving advice.
Your advice looks like you've neither did much research nor read many reviews.
First of all these rarely if ever fall apart, which reading all the reviews will show, compared to things like klipsch, etc.
You may be right about blown speakers not being covered under warranty but try to find 4 people that reported that their z-5500s blew before the end of the 2-year warranty. At 188 watts, 10 inches, and solid design that subwoofer isn't likely to blow any time soon unless he takes it swimming with him.
Connections? z-5500 has mini-jacks, coaxial, and digital optical.
Also wether you can hook up one thing or 5 at a time, the sound QUALITY is what's going to matter. The z series has won enough gaming awards for a small trophy stand. They indeed ARE amazing, especially for the price. Onkyo's are both outperformed and more expensive.

http://www.amazon.co...8&s=electronicsThat's the best you're gonna get for under a thousand. I'll stand by that until someone shows me something better.
Also, to davinator456 who said "if it is 500 rms it is not 1000 peak power":
The RMS is 505 watts in normal play.
For really quiet recordings there is a boost mode which increases the wattage.
So it is indeed 505 watts RMS, and 1010 watts peak power.
Your math was correct but your logic left out this possibility.
