For my system I got the following:

Athena Point 5 speakers (no sub) for $200 at OneCall when they were on clearence. ($500 msrp)
http://www.athenaspe...iesSpeakers.htm

Yamaha 550W 5.1-Ch. XM Satellite Radio-Ready Digital Home Theater Receiver - $200
http://www.bestbuy.c...d=1134703786117

MTX 12" Subwoofer (SW2) - 100W powered on sale for $150 at the time
http://www.circuitci...roductDetail.do

Total cost to me (minus speaker wire and shelving): $550

The Athena Point 5 speakers really make this system. They are great speakers. The sub is pretty incredible for it's price. I don't think I could use anything more as I already rattle closed doors. Yamaha makes great receivers. Put it together yourself... you get the things you want. I have gone the HTiB route before and I was not satisfied. This time I picked the pieces I want to create a system I would be satisfied with.

Cables... Monoprice.

Anyone know of any speaker stands I could get for my rear two speakers for the z5500? I can't seem to find any that work. I know how to take the bottom of the stands off them by taking the speakers apart but then when I attach it to most of the speaker stands it would be angled up. Let me know if anyone finds anything that works right. Thanks! smile.gif

Yamaha appears to have the best receivers today, with 3 component inputs and an ample number of digital audio inputs on the lower end models. Some of the higher end model support HDMI switching and upscaling, so it is possible to support up to 5 high def devices.

I would not recommend the Onkyo receiver mentioned in the thread as it only has 2 component inputs. This means your game console and only one more device such as a DVD player, TV Receiver or a Secondary console.
