Getting Weird Lines On Tv With 360
« on: June 03, 2006, 12:24:00 PM »

I hooked up my 360 today for the first time.  I have a standard Toshiba 27" TV, that happens to have component inputs, so I am able to use the cables that came with the premium.  Anyway, everything appears to be working fine except for the video.  The video appears to have very light purple and green groups of lines that slowly go up the screen, kind of like when you use a video camera and tape a computer monitor and/or TV.  Basically like refresh lines or something.  Has anyone else experienced this problem and/or know what could be causing this problem?  I made sure my cables are secure and in the right places, as well as weren't crossing any other cables.

I have a toshiba 36 inch crt, and I get the same problem as well. My 360 worked fine for about two weeks, (although in all honesty, I hardly played it during that time. This weekend, I played for about three or four hours straight, and now it appears that I'm getting drawing problems with the video. I've seen this problem in computer games before, when you choose an incorrect resolution or video device. Hope this is fixable, as this a persistent problem. It happens with any game I use, whether the 360 is cold or warm. I also use the RCA jack for video.

Well, I finally found out what the problem was.  It is the cable that is plugged into my TV that is causing the problem.  The cable coming out of the wall is going into a RF splitter.  One part of the splitter goes to my cable modem, and part goes to my VCR.  Then, there is a second cable which goes from my VCR to the TV.  When I unplug the cable from the TV the lines and hum magically disappear.  Anyway, I'm going to try and replace the cable that is running from the VCR to the TV first (since I have some extra) and see if that fixes the problem.  If not, I'm wondering if the RF splitter might be causing the problem.  In any case, I'm glad that I can play my 360 without those lines and the low hum noise! biggrin.gif

im guessing its one of the connecters not grounding correctly, just learned in detail how rf radiation works using different types of shielded cables. and the one the tv uses if its not shielded on one end or the other it offers no shielding whatsoever,
