Ok. Is the switch on your video cable set on HD and are you sure you cant change it in the dash?

Thanks. I did not know that about 1080i. My set is an older HDTV and does not support 720p.

I was also told that 480p was not actually HD. That's kinda silly that a normal screen TV would support a widescreen format. If I find a way to zoom it in, won't I lose alot of the picture?

Nevermind that anyway-I must have bought the TV before the zoom technology hit the open market.

I also tried using the VGA cables but I can't get the resolution to go any higher than entry level
(Some number X 480) so I went back to the component hookup.

I guess this means that I'm stuck with 480p?

You usualyl can't zoom in on HD pictures.  I can zoom in on standard def signals with my TV but not on things like 1080i.

What monitor do you have?  You should be able to use hd on about any monitor.

I am having a similar problem with my insignia (best buy brand) 26 LCD Hd-Tv. It worked fine up till last week. Then in 720p it went to Letterbox and only shows 3/4 of the screen.
Works fine in 1080i though. Screen says Letterbox in the upper right corner. I have reset the TV to factory defualts etc.

I have the 3 year product protection plan on both the xbox and the tv. Do you think its the TV or the xbox and should I take it back?

HDTV signals are widescreen... There is no such thing as a 4:3 HDTV signal.

4:3 HDTVs naturally show HDTV signals letterboxed or zoomed with the edges cut off.

and zoom tech has been around since the 80s.  rolleyes.gif
