Component Hookups To Sdtv?
« on: April 02, 2006, 09:32:00 PM »

Just picked up a 360 today....

My Xbox has been hooked up to my SDTV via component cables....

But the 360 didn't seem to work?

Can one still utilize the component cables on a non-HDTV with component inputs?

Mine works just fine, I have it hooked up to the component imputs, but the cable is switched to non-HDTV.

(you won't get 480p out of this, however)

So you have it hooked up with red, green and blue connections?  To a regular TV?

Is there something in the dash that needs to be changed?

What type of TV do you have? Is it just a normal SDTV with component inputs?

Wouldn't it just be hooked up through the composite cables then. the switch just switches to the composite connections.

I know some TVs with component connections have the Component imput and the Composite in the same imput, are you sure you just dont have the 3 component and the 1 composite plugged in to the input but have it set to Non-HDTV and its really just picking up the 1 composite cable?

i usually play in 1080i but if i move the switch out of hdtv, my tv tells me the xbox is displaying in 480i. i only have component cables plugged in, the yellow one is dangling at the back of my tv.

the component cables are sending a sdtv signal when told to.

interesting, I never knew that...

I wonder what happens if you have component only cables with no switch...

mine too is hooked up to component with the switch on "TV".  here is my TV http://www.amazon.co...nsstre&n=172282 i got it for free from a friend because he couldn't stand the "roundness" of the screen smile.gif  the tv doesn't support HD, they just marketed it with component inputs and the "VPORT" which is the same plug that is on the back of the original XBOX but it is also on the back of the TV.  You would think the TV would at least support 480p since it has a direct connection to the XBOX but it doesn't, however using the component/vport in always gave a better picture than composite/svideo.

Picture qualifty is better when using component cables vs. composite - Why is why I had the original Xbox hooked up in this manner.

Here's what the back of my TV looks like:

(IMG:http://img355.imageshack.us/img355/9756/32a43cljackpack7ep.jpg)

They call it "Color Stream", I think its pretty retarded how they have component imputs that only display 480i, but whatever.

I have hooked the xbox up both ways:  composite (yellow) and componet (red, green, blue), and component looks much better, even if it is only 480i.

Hell call me old fashioned but I always seem to confuse composite with components and vice versa.
All I know is that I've been gaming on a Sony Wega 480i CRT via the blue, green, and red inputs.
And it looks so much better than playing through the yellow jack.

Even on my Xbox, it made a huge difference....

I think if your TV has component inputs its technically a EDTV. My roomates TV(which I use for both xbox and 360) has component input and its a Panasonic Tau 27" Tube basically. No yellow plug is needed for either. Though sometimes when the yellow jack grounds out i loose my green sync, so i have it tucked back in the wad of other cables behind the TV
