No, its not. For a TV to be deemed "EDTV" capable, it has to be able to show a progressive image. Thats what EDTV means. Normal TV is called "Standard Definition", or SDTV. A TV that can display 480p is called "Enhanced Definition", or EDTV. And then, obviously, you have "High Definition", or HDTV.
SDTV = 480i
EDTV = 480p
HDTV = 720p/1080i/1080p
Having component inputs on a TV doesn't automatically mean you have EDTV. I have an older 27" Philips set in the basement of my house with component inputs, but its only capable of 480i. You just need to look at the actual connection on the back of the set to determin what you have.
If it says "Y-Cb-Cr" next to the component inputs, you just have an SDTV set. You will only get 480i output. It will look a little better than S-Video, but the resolution is the same. But, if you have "Y-Pb-Pr" next to the inputs, you have an EDTV. You can get 480p video through those connections.
And yes, you can use the 360 on a normal SDTV with the component cables. While I was waiting for my VGA cable to arrive, I had my 360 hooked up to the older Philips in my basement. Using the supplied component cables that came with the 360, with the cables set to "TV", it worked just fine. I used to have a DVD player hooked up on the same set, also with component cables, and that worked just fine as well.
Just make sure you aren't trying to send an SDTV a 480p image. As long as you have the component cable selector switch set to "TV", you should be ok.

I appreciate the comments.
My TV is NOT an EDTV, but simply an SDTV - Sony Wega.
I have had the original XBox hooked up just fine with component cables.
However, I can't for the life of my get the 360 to work via component cables.
It seems that no matter what, it appears to be sending a progressive signal, even when in "TV" mode on the cable.
In the Dashboard, the only choices are 480p, 720p and 1080i.
What the hell am I missing?
The only thought I have is that I am going through a receiver - Would that make any difference? The Xbox worked just fine like that though.
