Concerned About X360 Video Standards
« on: March 22, 2006, 04:07:00 PM »

Hi, I have a question. I want to buy a CRT 34" widescreen toshiba HDTV but it only support 480i/p and 1080i resolution (no 720p). I know MS set an HDTV standard of 720p for all games but I wanted to know if it could be possible that some futures games do not support 1080i resolution. I know currently all games support all HDTV res (except 1080p) but if a games comes out and it does not support 1080i, I will be forced to play it in 480p and I don't want that to happen. So is this an issue I should be concerned about or will all 360 games released will support 1080i?

Also, do Xbox1 games (like halo1/2) support 1080i as well or just 720p?

Thanks!

Edit: I just checked the back of my xbox360 games and it only says it support 720p for Burnout revenge and Perfect Dark Zero, so did they forgot to mention it supported 480p and 1080i or is it really because 1080i isn't supported for these games? Can someone confirm me that these games works in 1080i? Thanks!

I would be concerned about your set you plan on purcahsing.  It sounds to me like it will be upconverting the 480p signal to 1080i, which is not true HD.     I'd find out what the TV's native resolution is before purchasing.

It's right this one.

Can you explain me how can I detect Geometry issue and if this TV fully support 1080i. I know it doesn't says it support 720p on the webpage but it does with my Xbox 360, I've tested it at the shop and it works. I suppose the TV must upconvert the 720p signal to 1080i.
