What a waste of money, no next gen console will support that and by the time consoles do it will be out of date. Also by having it upscale you will get worse picture than a 720p set laugh.gif  laugh.gif  laugh.gif . I think its funny you spent 3 grand on a TV that cant even show the PS3 or 360 at their full potential, oh yeah and have fun buying new light bulbs for that DLP  jester.gif

Haha thats what you think, or havent you noticed they watered it down? It has no Blu-ray anymore, no bluetooth controllers, and no hard drive, im pretty sure if sony even gets a working one it will be in 1080i.

7 reasons why Samsung HL-R6178 kills Sony SXRD

1. No visible pixel structure on Samsung, Sony SXRD looks like you're looking through a screen door
2. 500 million colors (or somewhere there),  Sony SXRD = 16.7m colors
3. No burn in ^^.
4. No color fades, (I'd like to see that on the Sony SXRD, but, too  bad...)
5. 60 hz on 1080p !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Sony SXRD = no-can-do
6. Better contrast ratio (1:10,000) than Sony SXRD
7.Brighter screen ^^ W00t!!!

Dude, have you even seen the SXRD? I compared them directly, SXRD smokes Samsung.

CNet score for the SXRD= 8.8 and it received the Editor's Choice Award. There isn't any screen door affect. This TV is regarded as the best 1080p available today.
CNet score for the Samsung= 7.6

The Samsung doesn't have a true 1920x1080 pixel resolution.

This is what cnet said about the 67" model (same specs as the 61")
As we mentioned at the outset, the Samsung HL-R6768W has a native resolution of 1,920x1,080, which should enable it to resolve every pixel of 1080i high-def sources. Like most other 1080p displays on the market, the Samsung uses a Texas Instruments DLP chip. We prefer to think of the chip as a "quasi" 1080p solution, however, because it actually has only 960x1,080 physical pixels. A process called wobulation or smooth picture is used to effectively double the horizontal resolution by making the mirrors on the chip do double duty. In contrast, LCoS-based 1080p HDTVs have chips with all 2 million-plus discrete pixels. Despite having roughly half as many pixels, wobulated chips have the potential to display all 1,920 lines, but as usual, what actually appears on the screen varies across models and manufacturers.

lol, wobulated chip.  laugh.gif

Seriously though, you got a nice TV at a great price.

"Half as many physical pixels... blah blah blah"

Yes, that is true, but the 6th gen has mirrors that reflect and deflect twice as fast as previous gens. Making an absolute true 1080p

Let me know if it has gaming lag with the xbox or 360. Samsung says the newer models don't have that problem anymore, but I'm still not positive. Either way, I've pretty much decided to wait for the SEDs for a big purchase and just deal for now or find a deal on a reasonable 720p.

Ummmm.. no.  Shut ur face and learn what ur talkin' about.  First off, the pic is only bad if you have the signal scaled to a resolution other than what ur TV's native res is (usually). If you've got an LCD and you've got ur settings on 1080i, it'lll look like shit cuz ur LCD is natively 720p. And you honestly think you have ta replace bulbs that often?  You'd have ta replace a plasma prolly 3x as often due to fade than you would with a DLP and it's bulbs. We're goin' on 3 years w/ our 61" DLP (which actually has the slower color wheel... first gen) and it still looks fan-fucking-tastic. We got it for $2700 when it went on sale. So $2999 isn't that bad.

I juss hope you didn't get that stand... we had gotten one and it was way too high for my taste

And the argument for 1080p is juss retarded. It'll be a LONG time before anything worth while supports it (as in the content is brodacasted is 1080p and not scaled).  PS3? I'll belive it when I see it.  And if it DOES support it... oh well; 1080i still looks fantastic to me, haha.

In my opinion, Dlp has dominated the big screen Hdtv's for years in quality. The Sony's Sxrd
uses the new lcos technology. It stands up to Dlp.They both look beautiful.Samsung is a great
company.I hate Sony. But the Sxrd is great too.You won't be dissapointed with either one. When the
Led or sed technology is ready, I'll buy one personally. You can't get much better than that.
Ps3 deveopers said that they don't see much possibility in running 1080p in most games.Maybe a puzzle game though.Definitly no dual 1080p.Sony lies a lot.See Ya!

Yeah, the stand is all dependent on ur setup. If ur eye level is still near the center, you should be good. When ours was on the stand I could see the brightness fade ever so slightly at the top (no one else really noticed, but I did, so it had ta go, haha) Distance of viewing is also a factor. Ours (at the time) was about ten, twelve feet away (recomended is like 20-30ft, but I think that's rediculous and unnecessary if it's level)

I don't have the model number on hand and I don't feel like moving the set and crawling behind it with a flashlight tonight, but I'll get it for you either tomorrow or the next day.  It's actually an RCA. It only supports up to 1080i with no 720p and only 1 DVI input (but we've got a reciever with HDMI ins and outs, so it's no biggie) Any DVI at the time was a luxury... now it seems to come on even the shittiest of TVs, lol.

Yeah, definately too high for the floor. Ours is almost too high for the floor even without the stand (if ur sitting like 7ft away that is).  But I believe the speakers below it make it sit higher than yours.

Oh yeah, and the model number for ours is HD61LPW42.
