« on: February 19, 2006, 07:55:00 PM »

Alright here goes  I just got my first hdtv a sony wega 32, Problem is I want to hook up all my systems and I dont want to to buy a component switcher box. So I was thinking I would get a vga to dvi connector since I already have the vga adapter but Im not sure wich one to buy becuase I dont want quality loss. anyone here tried this yet or have any links to sites that sell such things? Then I could have my ps2 and gamecube hooked into component jacks and my 360 into the dvi input, Any and all help is welcome

Im not 100% sure, but I don't think you can just use a cable adapter. I know you can do dvi to vga, but to go the other way around you might need a converter box. DVI is digital most of the time, while VGA is analog. You can always buy the adapter for $10 and try it out.

There are several different versions of DVI.

VGA is PURE analog
HDMI is PURE digital
DVI-I cables can carry BOTH analog and digital signals
DVI-D can ONLY carry pure digital (like HDMI)

When you use one of those cheap adapters you basically have a DVI-I cable with NO DIGITAL SIGNAL AT ALL. So if your TV can only accept DVI-D it flat out wont work.
