Setting Up Live Tv On 360
« on: February 13, 2006, 02:52:00 PM »

ok, so i've got an ati all i wonder card... a 9700 in my computer... not top of the line but its still good for TV tuning.

i want to run my 360 as a dvr thru my comp.

i am also running XP, so I've read on the forums that I need to use MCE 2005. Can I get just the OS, or do I actually need a whole new computer to stream the video from the ATI TV app?

also, do i actually need mce? is there some sort of streaming supported by ATI?

sorry i know its kinda newbish questions but i'm just lost on this one.

CRAP, I POSTED THIS IN WRONG FORUM, CAN MODS PLEASE MOVE TO 360 PC TOOLS SECTION? sorry...

You NEED MCE, and not an MCE PC, but an OS.
Also, check to see if your graphics cards is supported by Windows MCE, I heard that MCE doesn't like many ATI cards or won't stream TV from an ATI card, but I could be wrong.

Depends where you live. In North America, no. In the UK I believe, they have the standalone versions.

so wait, if i want to stream tv to the 360, i need a new computer cause i live in north america?

that is so absurd by m$...

is this true?

I don't know what the other guy was talking about but all you need is a video card tht MCE supports and a copy of MCE (Operating System) and you have your media center pc. You don't need to buy an entirely new computer

Right.  And you CAN buy MCE 2005.
You also need to keep in mind that you'll need to stream over a wired connection if possible.  If you stream at 54mbs the tests will come back too low.

Ok people are getting confused in here.

You need a "TV TUNER" that MCE supports, not so much a Vid card.

You also need to purchase a copy of MCE 2005. It is essentially a GUI slapped on top of Xp pro SP2. You cannot buy it without XP and it will cost approx $160 US.

When vista arrives it will be built in but until then your out of luck
