all that offers is more space which in actuallity could provide more room for HD content but doesnt actually mean that the data is  HD.

Blu-ray and hd-dvd only allow you to put more hd content on one disk. Your normal dvdr can hold hd content just not as much as the above mentioned.

come do some research
                       HD-DVD stands for "High Density" DVD. its space not resolution. you could probably put a few minutes of High Def video on a cd. the players will suports High Def. the xbox 1 even has High def games already.

Well.. Up yours for calling me ignorant. I'm actually quite intelligent, just not up to par on all the hd dvd jazz. If you get so annoyed at people asking questions maybe you shouldnt be on a forum. I'm thinking about getting a 360 and was just curious. No need for insults.

If you read any of the NUMEROUS FAQs sitting at the top of these 360 boards you would know what Hi-Def means.

HD is just a resolution

"Standard Definition" is 640x480 interlaced or 720x480 interlaced

"Enhanced Definition" is 640x480 progressive or 720x480 progressive

"High Definition" is 1280x720 progressive or 1920x1080 interlaced or 1920x1080 progressive

it has nothing to do with the medium the content is placed on WHAT-SO-EVER

In fact I have a DVD (just a regular old DVD) with Terminator 2 encoded in 1920x1080 progressive

You could put HD video on a floppy disc if you wanted to, you could probably only put about 2 seconds of video on there, but you could still put it on there.

Blue-Ray and HD-DVD (BTW "High Density Digital Versatile Disc") are no different then regular DVDs except they have more space, THATS IT. There's nothing special about them that makes them more or less able to display certain types of content.

Higher resolutions requires more space so they're putting it on discs that have more space.
