look in the manual  blink.gif

if you don't have it. get the model number, probably on a sticker at back of the monitor. then do a search on google.

or just set it to what looks good for you.

Depends , is your panel is 4:3 or 16:9 ?

My opinion is that the best over-all is 1280x720 but if you can pixel map to the native panel resolution of your display (with the available 360 VGA resolutions) then always try that first .

1792x1344 maximum resolution
Displays a maximum resolution of 1792x1344; 1280x1024 @ 80Hz filcker-free refresh rate for easy-on-the-eyes viewing.

those are the specs on the monitor, what do you guys think? i know nothing about resolution besides the fact i know its how many pixels fit on the screen or whatever

OK , so it sounds like the native panel is 1280x1024 so try that from the M$ VGA cable . That is a 4:3 panel and since it can do 1280x720 native as well then you can use that if you wish to do 16:9 .

hmmm, you did say flatscreen, but do you mean LCD monitor or CRT monitor?  Is it just the glass that's flat, or is your monitor also very thin?

If its an LCD, yeah, set it as close to the native resolution as possible.

But from the way you're describing yours, it sounds as if it's a CRT monitor, in which case, set it as high as the 360 will go, which is 1366x768 or 1280x720, which ever looks best to you.   These are wide screen resolutions, so you'll have to adjust your monitor to display correctly with the proper sized black bars, or choose the highest 4:3 (non widescreen) resolution the 360 will display at.
