Resolution With Plasma Tv Issue
« on: January 27, 2006, 06:40:00 AM »

Hi

Just got plasma TV, hooked up 360 via VGA cable...

Now my TV supports up to 852 x 480 resolution , but 360 doesn't have that option. So i selected (i think) 854 x 480 (something like that) but the screen was off to the right )no centered)

It only appears to be centered if I select 1024 x 720 (i think, i need to recheck the numbers)

But this is not the resolution that my tv states, so is it damaging my TV?

if the TV accepts that resolution, it's just downsampling it to its native resolution.  how does it look?  if it looks good, keep it.

Is this plasma TV labeled "ED" enhanced definition or "HD" high definition?

EDTV versus HDTV

a good article on the native resolutions of plasma TV's.

Hardcandy = thanks for the link

Oswald = just like me PM, the picture looks awesome, it appears better than the Samsung LRN LCD TV demo @ stores. I just wanted to make sure i wasn't damaging the TV< but i think tha only applies to LCD

you can't damage a TV by sending it a resolution different then it's native.

All Displays that support more then 1 resolution have scaler chips to change the incoming signal to their native format.

I don't know where you heard that you can DAMAGE a plasma or LCD by sending it the wrong resolution but that is completely untrue.

I'm glad i was wrong about damaging the TV

question, why when i sleect those other resoltuons like 850 x 480 and so on, are they not centered?

and , thus far, i only found 1024 x 720 to be centered?

also, which is better , using the VGA 360 connector or the component outputing @ 720p? or probably no difference since the TV will up or down scale the signal, right?

I assume it's because DVD outputs @ 480p , if I'm correct anyway to fix this?

Is there a wayin the menu to have a certain resolution for a certain input? So if you switch from the xbox to the dvd, the plasma would know to switch its display properties.

That has to be fixed in display settings of your plasma... there's nothing in the Xbox 360 that can fix that. your display is simply interperting it incorrectly.
