Hdtv Help

Hi all,

I bought the Samsung 30" Widescreen CRT HDTV** (TX-R3079). But the component inputs are flakey and keep saying "no signal" Not too mention DVDs look better on my 52" SDTV Projection RCA TV upstairs. So I am returning it.

Heres my problem... I paid for this TV on my Futureshop Credit Card..... Since I didn't have the cash on me... later on that week I paid the card off in Full. Great idea right? WRONG. Now when I return it they can only refund the money back onto my card, which would now leave me with a $1200 credit.... So regardless I have to get a TV from Futureshop. I have been looking and I want to stay in the $1200 price range or under. Since I read the reviews before buying my Samsung and all work pretty good, even though mine sucks balls. I am looking for some assistance.

Here are some i found on futureshop.ca web site that may interest me

option 1 (More expensive)
Norcent 42" Widescreen Plasma EDTV** (PT4233) $1499
-This TV confuses me, it says EDTV but then goes on to say it supports 720p & 1080i. Is this HDTV? Or will it accept HDTV signals and down convert to 480p? What do you think of this TV for Xbox 360, Movies, HDTV TV?

option 2 (Still more expensive)
Digimate 32" Widescreen LCD HDTV** (DGL32) $1299.99
http://www.futuresho...10063091&catid=
Proview 32" Widescreen LCD HDTV** (RX326)    $1299.99
http://www.futuresho...10061306&catid=

Both of these TVs appear to be similar i specs, all though reviews seem to prefer the Proview. What do you think?

Prima 27" Widescreen LCD **HDTV (LC27UG16)    $999.99

The EDTV "Supports" HD resolutions... meaning it will accept them and then downscale them to 480p

Why don't you read the HDTV buyers guide to determine what TV to get... that's what it's there for,

Don't listen to people here most of them will just tell you to get what they themselves have good or bad.

There is a link to the Team Xbox Buyers guide in my sig, as well as in the sticky.

You might have gotten a lemon samsung.  But I thought I should add that most credit card companies, if you ask nicely, will mail you a check for the amount of credit you have on the credit card.  So you could actually get all your 1200 back and buy what you want where you want.

I found that ok so i have that option

I am still interwsted in the proview 32" LCD and futureshop will do it for $200 off so $1099.99
Or the Norcent EDTV Plasama

How noticable is EDTV to 1080i HDTV?

Because, i know my samsung might be a lemon, but i got the HDTV Rogers terminal and conencted it. HDTV channels looked liek crap, no different from regular TV. And most fo them were not 16:9 but instead had black bars on top/bottom and sides. If this is the case, I don't want a HDTV until all channels are HDTV in 16:9 sometime in 2009. In this case would the Plasma EDTV be good for TV, movies and 360? I read somewhere that Plasma EDTV's has better reoslution than Tube HDTV's and in some cases even look better than some lower end HDTV's

What do you guys think?

All my hdtv channels are in 16x9 with no blackbars except for one sports channel for some reason.  So it even did the black bars on a channel like discovery hd or some channel that only does hi-def the entire time?

I should add that even though you are in the hd channels, not all the shows are in hd, so you will still have black bars unless the show is broadcasted in hd like "House".

From what it sounds like you really did get a lemon samsung.  And yes, I believe it will make a difference if you go from edtv to hdtv.
