Viewed from the same distance the 42" is not better than the 27" it is just bigger. The 27" should actually have a better picture than the 42".

Digital is half the problem. what takes better pictures a digital camera or an analog camera? (I know digital cameras are "getting better" and there are some good digital cameras and some crappy analog cameras) But over all analog is still better quality. Not near as easy or convenient or user friendly, but higher performance.

what the hell is this thread about? are you getting HD images or not I have a 46" Toshiba DLP connected via component cables. The image looks around 100 times better than that of a non HD TV.

When the xbox is set to 720p can u see the image?

i would check your TV as its sounds like its not even doing HD or your cable is shite if you cant tell the difference from STD TV to HDTV

First, you need to buy an AVIA GUIDE TO HOME THEATER DVD.  It will walk you through setting the proper picture on your set.  It includes filters for blue, red, and green.  Trust me here, your HDTV will not look right unless you set it up properly, and this disc makes it practical.  Buy it!

Second, look around in your settings on your TV.  Reduce sharpness-people always set it too high.  Look at things like aspect ratios, temperature color controls (cool & warm), and "video status" (this is what my JVC calls it, anyway)-like game, cinema, standard, dynamic-see which looks right.  I have heard of some projection TVs having problems in other modes than "game".

Lastly, there are plans for a 360 HDMI cable later.

Buy the Avia disc.  My guess is you are watching your TV in "Blowtorch" mode.  Images look like total garbage when settings are too high.  That will probably fix you up.

Here are the settings I have on my set (Keep in mind that each set is different):
Tint (hue)=50
Color (saturation)=44
Picture (contrast)=56
Brightness (black level)-52
Detail (sharpness)-32
Make sure you are using the component video cables, not the composite (RCA) yellow video cable.  Make sure that the a/v cable is set to HDTV (it should be, but just to be safe).

I don't know if Avia discs are in stores or not.  I assume a decent home-theatre store would have them...maybe even Best Buy.  I know Amazon does.

If all else fails, have an ISF certified technician come out and fine-tune your set.  You can locate local ISF certified techs and dealers HERE.  It'll cost you a couple-hundred at least, but well worth it.  They can enter service menus and use calibration equipment to make sure you get the 100% best image quality possible.

well after reading the manual a little bit it says that the GAME mode only works in 480p

i went to best buy today and saw the xbox1 on display on my tv and it looked awesome, just awesome.

was gonna test out my 360 to see if the settings were right but that didnt work out well cuz i forgot my power cable.... (ms makes a notch on the inside of the psu so that you cant use after market notches.)  avia is 35 bucks?  whats the differnce between that and digital video essentials?  ill try out around those settings that you have. maybe something will happen.  if all else, best buy said to call their techs to come out and do a reset or something.

Do you know what the hell your talking about?

Anyway in the future to resize your pictures when uploading to Imageshack just click the resize button and then specify what size you want it to resize them too

Yes I deal with analog and digital imaging every day. Please read my statements carefully. If you need me to go through the math I will.

Digital Video Essentials, I believe, is similar to Avia.  My recommendation of Avia comes from my personal experience with it.  DVE should work fine for you too.

Regarding the whole "analog is still better quality" business...let's NOT start a flame war here.  v600blink's image quality is the topic.  But, you are high if you think an analog picture (component input) is better quality than digital (HDMI).  Now there are other factors like analog-digital conversion, rendering, etc.  But here and now we are talking about games.  Games are 100% digital.  To get the best IQ from a game, you need 100% digital components-game disc, 360 console, HDMI cable, and (right now, at least) a DLP TV.

Dualtriamp, make a new topic and "go through the math".  Hopefully you will put a clear explanation there.  I'd love to read it and, hopefully, learn something.

Yes, component is analog technology.
We are all waiting (panting, actually) for HDMI.

Electrical tape.  If you are good with actuators and electrical stuff, you can make a cloth that comes down and blocks the grey bars,  I thought about doing that using a power antenna from a car.  Really, just use the zoom feature.

If the only options u get are 16x9 and 4x3 than you are probably watching a high definition signal.  That signal is meant to be in 16x9 (widescreen).  Does it look weird in 16x9? I do know that they put the 4x3 grey bars instead of black to make the tv last longer, not as prone to burn in.  It annoyed me to,  but I don't think there is anything you can do to change it aside from buying a different tv.
