That price is not very good. You can get a 32" for about 80 dollars more.  Yea the resolution is better, but that is because its made to be a computer monitor. I don't see any reason to play on such a small screen.

Yes, but resolution really matters. The only problem with playing it on a monitor is there's no tuner, so if you plan on watching tv on this thing then you'll need a cable box. Or a Tivo, which is what I did, the setup is kinda cumbersome but it's still looks great when I play my 360 on the highest res.

It would work with the xbox360, and it would look good.  But it is not widescreen so you would end up with black bars.  I would say go with this one instead

Same style, but widescreen.

One suggestion though, if you are nitpicky about geometry issues like me, do not buy this tv.  If you are extremely nit picky about geometry issues, do not buy a crt tv period, every crt tv will have geometry issues unless you get extremely lucky, or pay for a pro to come out and fix it.  just my .02

What do you mean by Black Bars and is it worth the extra 300 Dollars for the other one???

The tv you chose ( I didnt look at it, but it was said to be non-widescreen) is shaped more like a square than how the widescreen televisions are shaped, which is like a rectangle or as some refer to it 'letter-box'.

Because the tv you chose is shaped square, when you play it HD, the picture on the tv will have to adjust to fit the signal it is recieving, in which, the top and bottom will have 'black bars'. It's the same thing when you watch a DVD movie and there are black bars that are on the top and bottom of the screen so it will fit properly.

And Yes, it is worth an extra 300$ for a widescreen tv.

yeah, what he said.  Once you go widescreen, you won't go back.  For example in driving games, the road will become wide and you can actually move around where as on a normal 4:3 screen the road is very narrow.  in shooting games you will be able to see an entire room without looking around as much, but in 4:3 you have to look everywhere.  It just adds to the experience, and I GUARANTEE YOU WILL NOT REGRET GETTING WIDESCREEN!!!

A simple answer is if you have a straight line go across the tv (like in the loading for project gotham 3) it will not be completely straight.  It may be bent inward or outward or even a little sideways.  For the most part, you only notice it during loading screens and dvd's where there are black bars.

True, I have this TV. The Samsung 30" HD Widescreen. Real good price for the size and HD of the TV. I like it and haven't had any problems out of it.

I looked and read everywhere about an HD TV around this size and price and finally chose the Samsung. I even looked at LCD's too, but for the price range I had, I would have had to get an entry level LCD and maybe even smaller in size. But, what exactly are geometry issues? I haven't noticed anything on mine so far. But, again I don't know what geometry issues are, so! lol

To the guy that wanted the 27" version of this TV: Get the 30" one, you'll like it better. I also got mine at Circuit City too. Got it for about $100 cheaper than anywhere else. Word, on the comment about once you go wide screen, you never go back.

Edit: Nevermind I see the reply about geometry issues now. Thanks.

U should get a SONY 24" GDM-FW900 CRT MONITOR. Wide screen. 22.5'' viewable screen. FD Trinitron tube. Max resolution 2304X1440. this thing is a beast. it was discontinued in 2002. some say it blows past any crt or lcd tv on the market today. also heard it weighs a ton too. these thing cost over 2 grand when they came out. u can get a refurb one for about $250-$500 on ebay. will be getting one very soon rolleyes.gif

This site has one for $480 with free shipping

AClaye, that tv is awesome.  If you mount it in an entertainment center or somehow get just the screen through the wall, people will think it is the sharpest plasma out there, hehe.

One suggestion though, DON'T START LOOKING FOR GEOMETRY ISSUES.  It's best if you never look for them because you will probably never find them unless you are specifically looking for them.

Thanks, yeah it is the smallest CRT I've ever seen. To a non-tech person, they would think it's an LCD or plasma. lol But yeah, I haven't noticed any geometry problems at all so far.

Ok, I'm seriously thinking about getting that SONY 24" GDM-FW900 CRT MONITOR, but I have a few questions...
1) Will I be able to watch TV through it? I heard you can do so with a TiVo or Cable Box and I have both...
2) What would I use for audio? I got my set up ghetto rigged right now. i got a cheap 26" tv with mono sound, but i got a small 15" tv with surround sound built into it...I pretty much feed everything to my surround sound tv and use the 26" one as a monitor, using the video input on it.
3) How would I be able to plug my DVD play and stuff like that up to it?

I'm a noob when it comes to HDTV's and monitors, so please, be gentle!

Or should I just break down and buy an LCD TV? I was thinking about getting that 30" samsung, but I'm afraid that it will break my particle board tv stand, since it weighs in at 120 lbs.

My budget is probally not going to be over 850$, since I work part time and have a car payment. I'm getting around 700$ back on my tax return and I can probally spare around 150 or so.
