What Is The Best Time Of Year To Get An Hdtv
« on: January 18, 2006, 08:52:00 AM »

hey guys I am thinking about buying an HDTV sometime later this year. I am just wondering when the best time to buy one would be, as I am not really in any hurry at all to get it

Also, show me the coolest, cheapest tvs you can find. I think I am going to go rear projection just because they are cheap and make you look loaded  biggrin.gif

the end of the summer up through before Thanksgiving...

that's about the time the companies start rolling out the next years' models and the older models start going on sale...

They get cheaper and cheaper towards the end of the year but also more scarce, they're also almost completely picked over once black-friday hits due to the christmas rush...

you'll get the best deal if you can find on in late december/early january but those are pretty rare....

Sometimes you can get really good Open Box/Return deals right after the Superbowl.  People buy big HD sets for their Superbowl parties and then return them the following day/week.  Stores have been cracking down on this practice over the last few years, but you might be able to get lucky if you don't mind buying a used set.

actually for a new tv it is the week or two before super bowl, I was a manager at sears, huge sales that weekend.  You can always wait for the week after and buy a return though like CrisK was saying and it might save you a couple bucks but that would be off the regular price not the sale price.  Another thing is check costco, they have great tv's for a good price but have a excellent return policy, ie something goes wrong a year after you buy it, most of the time they will let you return it no questions asked

I got my 46" Toshiba DLP on the Black Friday weekend at Best Buy for $1499.  It was actually on sale thourgh the end of Saturday until warehouse stock was sold.  It had to be shipped into the store, but it was well worth the wait for the price.  This isn't an options scarce unit either as it has 2 HDMI inputs, built in HD tuner and a cable card slot.  I almost wish I waited on buying my parent's their 51" CRT as it was more expensive less than a year before.
