Went to my friends house who has the same TV as me but it is widescreen and he plays the games in 1080i. OMG the difference is AMAZING. I'm gonna sell my TV and get the widescreen. He plays everything in 1080i. That's better than 720p right??

Yes 1080i is better then 720p... but only a handful of TV's have native 1080i resolution.  So whatever the native res is on the tv is what you should use on the xbox.

The native res? The tv is capable of displaying 480, 720, and 1080i

For a CRT choosing 1080i is usually better because that is usually it's native resolution if it is a true HD Television. You should always try to use the native resolution of the display device if you can.

1080i is not universally better than 720p however. The x360 renders internally at 720p and 480p for games, for the console the superior resolution to use is 720p, however 1080i will give you very good results with minimal resolution loss on most displays. If you have a true 1080p (DLP) display then you will experiance no resolution loss, but there will be some minor screen artifacts such as mouse teeth, the human brain automatically fixes these artifacts however and you typically will not even notice them.

I hate that Microshaft completely forgot about people with FullScreen HD TVs...   I would much rather play my games at 1080 full screen...   If they sell TVs that are in full screen that natively handle 1080, then the xbox should be able to send a picture that is full screen at 1080...   simple as that.

I want a dashupdate that lets me choose 1080 vertical lines and a 4:3 aspect ratio...   I've played games in letterbox (luckily my tv supports), they are super crisp, but the graphics are too small even on a 32" screen.

There will never be a 4:3 1080p. Even if there was, your TV won't support it. WHY DID YOU BUY A FULLSCREEN HDTV IN THE FIRST PLACE?

720p, 1080i, and 1080p will never ever display in 4:3.
just google those solutions, for instance, 720p is 1280x720, how is that display in 4:3 (fullscreen)??
