Cant Get Surround Working
« on: January 10, 2006, 10:22:00 AM »

Are you trying to use the red/white audio cables for surround?  You can't do that.  Well, you could activate DPLII and you would get a sort of "fake" surround, but it wouldn't be true 5.1  Do you see the plug on the back of the component video cable on the end that plugs into the 360?  That's for the optical audio cable.  That's what you need.  I think I see an input for it on the back of your receiver, but the picture is kind of small so I can't be for certain.  You just need to run the optical cable from the 360 directly to the receiver.

Anyway, you need a cable like this:  Link

I have almost the exact same setup as you. The reason you aren't getting surround is cause your not outputing / inputing surround. Get an optical cable, run it from your xbox directly to your audio system. Then set it to "digital in" and put your TV on mute. And enjoy. Oh you may need to go under the audio setup on the xbox and select 5.1 but it will probably auto config it.
