2nd... YES YOU CAN get 5.1 from Red/White Dolby Pro Logic II is full 5.1, just not as high of quality as Dolby Digital

I hate to argue with a mod, but this is incorrect. As quoted directly from Dolby Laboratories, "Dolby® Pro Logic® II technology processes any high quality stereo (two-channel) movie and music audio into five playback channels of full-bandwidth surround sound. "  - Two channel = Red and White. You can look more into this at http://www.dolby.com...rologic_II.html  In reality, you don't get more than 4 discreet channels out of Prologic II.

AC3, or Digital Dolby 5.1 is 5 discreet stereo inputs plus an LFE channel for the subwoofer. That information is not carried over two analog lines (it can be carried over 6, but definitly not two). It is generally transferred over coaxial RCA or optical lines.

I am assuming that you meant that you could have surround sound working and have the back speakers active in a two channel setup using Prologic, not that you would have 5.1 or 5 discreet speaker signals from a two channel hookup.

3rd... are you sure the converter you got is the right type? it's not a simple adapter Optical to coax converter only work one way or another, if you got one that converts Coax to Optical then it wont work because it's backwards and you'd need to get a new converter.

Back, again, to the topic at hand. This is exactly what I was thinking. I posted that I asumed the converter wasnt working, or backwards, but the first thing that tipped me off is he never said he had power going into the converter. Hmmm.... This is where i would focus my efforts.

In the begining of this post he only mentioned that he was only getting sound out his projector,  I am just wondering what kind of projector did you get?  I saw one projector system this weekend at sams club it was a Epson box everthing was on the projector dvd player and speaker outputs only no out puts for for hooking up a better surround sound cause it was built into the projector.  could this be the case?
