...what are you looking to spend? describe the room its gonna be in and the average light conditions when you use the projector, is it pitch black, will it only get dim?

I use the infocus SP4805 with my 360. Its 480p/720p/1080i , but its native to 480p and scales down 720P+ by a little bit. The sp5000 is 720p native but is getting real bad reviews..quality and such...

You mentioned your first XBox looked bad on the projector?
What kind of inputs are you using in the projector
(For both the XBox and the 360?)
If you are going to just use single yellow composite (or component? - I always
get them mixed up)  the video is not going to look any better
on any projector you use.

Make sure to use the RGB HD cable into a projector.
I use a Benq 6100 (I think they are like $800 now)
I love it, but dont know how high your standards are to compare it.
