Unable To Set 1080i On Samsung Hdtv
« on: December 31, 2005, 09:38:00 AM »

I have a Samsung SP42Q2HLX 42inch Rear Projection HDTV which supports 480i,480p,576i,576p,1080i.  I was unable to set the output from the 360 to 1080i in the dashboard so am not sure what I should do. Is there something wrong with my 360 or cable to the TV?
I have a Joytech HD AV Cable with component, composite and s-video outputs and it's set to HD and component connections are plugged into the component in the back of the TV.
Any ideas?

Yep, look at getting some M$ cables.

Still trying to find them but can't get them in the UK.

I meant to add another thing with regards to my dash.

In the display setting the image is set to 480p.

I play PGR3 and PDZ and they are coded in 720p so will they Xbox 360 downscale to 480p or will my TV upscale the image internally to 1080i (it doesn't support 720p)?

Things are getting confusing but I have to say that PGR3 and PDZ look stunning for 480p!!

Just need to get my hands on some official cables to discount the Joytech ones.  Have heard other people having issues with them but not to the point that they were unable to set 720p or 1080i from the dashboard.

Is there anyway to check what is being displayed on the screen to determine if it is 480p or 1080i?

Really what I am thinking is that the Xbox 360 may not have the ability to output the signal from the dashboard and that may be a fault with the Xbox.

I am clutching at straws until I can get hold of the official cables but some insight from anyone with experience would be much appreciated.

I am not totally sure about that. Maybe I will check the pin outs if I can find a diagram for them somewhere.
I would be surprised about that but you could have a point.
The Xbox 360 may look for a signal back from the TV to determine how it sets the video output?
