No contest it is DLP all the way for performance. They are also pretty slim now too. The only thing LCD has on DLP is size and viewing angle.

I'm also looking. The problem I have is an exact space requirement. The samsung dlp is the only 42" that will fit.

But I'm thinking about getting a westinghouse 37" lcd for the fact that its 1080i native as such running pc games and using it for a monitor for a "media center PC" would be a better choice due to the higher resolution, but its a little smaller screen, and a little more money.

Any input on using DLP with a PC?

OK might be shooting myself in the foot but what are the downsides of using a hdtv CRT rear projection?

I have now learned from a good source the DLP has no burn worries

I have learned that Plamas are the worse for this but also that LCD can burn and that CRT can burn as well but it takes alot for a CRT to do this   (static images)  the source i got for the lcd says that he fixing them all the time at some virtuaul golf range that uses lcd projectors and flat panels.  Any ways

SO CRT any good or tell the wife i am sticking with the DLP like it or not.

I just got the samsung 42" DLP last night.

It is well just awesome. However IMO normal TV looks better on a normal TV. But xbox 360 and HighDef stations are AWESOME.

I agree with everybody for the most part that DLPs are better but I have tried multiple samsungs and have noticed lag in each and every one. If you are going to get a samsung take your 360 up there with FPS games like PDZ and Halo and also try out sports games where timing is key. Thats what I did and the lag was horrible (tested HLRxx67 series dlps). I suggest if you are still interested in a DLP to try another manufacturer. I myself will be getting a Panasonic LCD-RP. The black levels are not as good as the samsung but with a side by side comparison I didn't notice a difference in picture quality when viewing HD programming.

if im not mistaken samsungs have a speacial AV connection set that is completly free of lag, and that lag didnt even occur unless you were feeding it non 720p(bigger models 1080p) signal

I haven't heard of this special lag free set. Any links would be greatly appreciated. I took my 360 up there with the supplied HD component cables and trust me there was lag. I set the 360 to 720p and 1080i and the lag was still there. I'm not saying that all DLP's are like this but the samsung series that I tested all had this problem.

Go to Circuit city and try out the Sony and Panasonic LCD rear projection sets. The don't have lag, rainbow effect or burn in issues. Look to see if you notice any screen door effect. But with doing so also take into account the viewing distance that you will most likely have at home. The further you sit away from it the less of a factor it is.

Also each one of those brands has a vga input. I also tried my normal xbox with composite hookups and they worked fine with no lag issues. Only thing is that since the contrast is really good you'll notice imperfections a lot quicker.

Other than that, I think any of those is an excellent option

ok I am sure this is stated somewhere but i will ask here any ways.  when the tv says hdtv tuner built in does this mean it will automatically convert the signal it recieves to a hd signal or is it just for the broadcast hd signal.  and what does hdtv ready imply?

HD tuner built-in means that if your area broadcasts some channels in HD, your tv can automatically tune in to them without any type of cable service or anything.

HD ready means that you have the hookups necessary and that you will need some type of cable box and service to tune in or receive HD programming.
