Yeah hdtv will be the standard, it has in Japan for many years. As the FCC mandated that all broadcasts much be digital it was by 2006 but I think it has been pushed back to 2008 or something. As they bought the frequency analog runs on for military purposes.
Plus the cost of HDTV is much cheaper now, its almost hard to find a all analog big screen anymore. Wal-Mart has a 52" RCA 16x9 HDTV for $998 on sale!!! Its pretty nice forthe money, actually its real nice for the money.
The main area that is unclear is how inputs go as far as , component,HDMI,DVI;etc. Theres where a standard needs to be made.

Yeah I have an HD tv. It's a 50 inch sony lcd rear projection. It's going to be amazing with my surround sound. (Klipsch speakers kick ass)  The tv is great But I'm 28 a lot of gamers are younger and don't have $3000 for a tv.  But actually prices are coming down for hd lcd tvs.  Now the only problem is actually getting the f**king system since my gaurenteed preorder isn't gonna be in at launch!  Gotta love lines.....

i haven't heard anything but rumor, but i wouldn't start waiting for halo 3.  Remember when they had halo2 coming out a year after halo then two more years and it came out.  Bungie isn't gonna rush to put out a crappy game, they proved that with halo2.  There gonna take their time and make sure its awsome.

I'll get a HDTV when the UK prices arent so high. The cheapest HDTV in the UK (a 26" one) is about £500 - thats $890USD

I have had a high def TV that does 480p and 1080i since I got the XBox. It makes a difference on that as well. I am using the same television for my 360 and have it set to 1080i and it looks great. I am planning on picking up an InFocus SP4805. I am a little worried because it downscales everything to 480p widescreen but it has great contrast, uses DLP, and from the pictures I have seen it looks fantastic. I worry that I will notice a decrease in quality because I have been using 1080i. Then again... it will provide a much larger picture.
