My Tv Only Has Options For 540p And 1080i
« on: November 11, 2005, 06:39:00 AM »

I've got a 43" Hitachi projection TV that I've had for a few years now...long before I considered having my Xbox in hi-def.

CLICKY

With my current Xbox I'm not so sure about the clarity of the picture.  My Xbox is all that is hooked up to the TV to try it in Hi-Def though.  I don't have cable TV...only cable internet for Live gaming.  Therefore, I cannot compare pictures to a hidef cable channel.

Which setting should I use for the 360 when I get it?  Will I be more likely to get a crisper picture?  Getting a new TV is out of the question.

Also, the TV always defaults back to SDTV/DVD when I turn it off.  When I turn it back on I have to manually select the HDTV option.  Could this be caused by some conflict with my Xbox settings (all options are inabled in-dash)?

Is it too soon for this question to be answered?

Thanks

i say just put it at 1080i.  i think it would be the same if you get a tv that does 1080i native and upscales from 720p for example.  its still going to look 10 times better then what you would see on a regular tv or even at 540p

540p isn't a real resolution... it's a fake resolution made up by TV companies for TVs that only support 1080i.

Because it's not a real resolution it's not supported by the 360...

so that should answer your question  laugh.gif

Thanks for the replies fellas.  I did notice that when I'm in 540p and the screen is black/dark, as in loading screens, that the top of the screen flickers some.  It doesn't do this in 1080i.

DVDs are 720x480 (unless it's letterboxed or fullscreen, then it's 640x480)... AFAIK interlacing is a function of the display, NOT the source medium.

1080p or 720p depending on the recording... most will probably be 1080p.

Tried to edit previous post, it wouldn't let me for some reason... dunno, maybe too late. So just cut and pasted... dunno why four letters are such a big deal.  wink.gif
