What Is 1080k?
« on: November 04, 2005, 01:01:00 AM »

Hello,
I am looking at the Sony Bravia 32" HDTV that supports up to 1080k?
Is that 1080i compatible or what is this other def?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

It's a misprint. It says 1080i further down the page and and as you know the letter k is just below the letter i on a keyboard so it's an easy mistake to make.

I really do believe Sony got a typo on their page since k is indeed below i on the keyboard so the typer just messed up.
I think this may be the HDTV I am getting for the 360 then since it seems good for the task.
8ms response time seems good over other screens I've seen.
The only aspect not so great is the 1000:1 contrast ratio which I've seen better.

It does have an 8ms response time, though. That's better than the Samsung's on the 360 kiosk's that are 12ms.

Just a side note, did you know that Samsung and Sony both make their LCD panels in the same factory? Their lighting engine's and other internal technologies are different but you are getting the same panels.  blink.gif

EDIT: just saw that you posted about the response time...I should've read closer.

All I know is that the x360 doesn't support 1080k, therefore you should buy the PS3 instead.

There was a thorough comparison review of 30-32" LCDs in our version of "popular mechanics" and one of these new bravia models was first and the new samsung (of this summer) was second to last out of the 10 screens there.

I almost bought one of those samsungs myself based on good reviews from people on forums, but I doubt I'll get one now.

edit: the model was V32, and also

If we just went on personal opinion, I look at both of those TV's every day and I prefer the Samsung (on picture quality alone). To me, it just has a brighter, crisper picture but like said, that's just an opinion that's worth about $.02 the last time I checked.

The models options I am looking at are: Sony KLV-S32A10 and SAMSUNG LN-R237W though.
I also saw the Sharp Aquos but that one has only 800:1 contrast ratio and 12ms response time.
