720p Vs. 1080i
« Reply #15 on: November 14, 2005, 06:29:00 AM »

Well, think about it this way:

1080i

Frame1:odd lines
Frame2:even lines

1080p

Frame1:all lines
Frame2:all lines again or new frame?

If frame 2 in 1080p is a new frame, bandwidth goes up like crazy.  You have effectively quadrupled your bandwidth requirement.

1080p will look better than 1080i no doubt but they are the exact same amount of pixels each. The difference is in how it's refreshed. I'm not gonna go on about that though cuz it's old news. Guess what though, the jump from 1080i to 1080p is not as big a jump as going from 480i to 480p. The high quality is already there, when it was 480i the quality was shat. So basically going to 1080p is about getting rid of the small artifacts that most  people wouldn't even notice on a properly calibrated tv and stabilizing the picture.

All i know is in 1080i, xbox games, emu's, and movies look like shit on my 19" sony trinitron flat crt monitor, while 720p looks great.

720p (45kHz) has a considerably higher H. freq. then 1080i (33kHz), which is the exact same thing as what 540p would give......exactly half of 1080i.  In fact, 1080i has about the same H. freq. as 480p (31kHz).  On a computer monitor, 1080i's picture quality is comparible to to what 540p would be.

You just stated the exact same thing i said you tool. What did I say? "The difference is in how it's refreshed." Maybe you should read posts you reply to a couple times before you go shooting your typing finger off at people.  rotfl.gif

I already got my tv.  It does both 720p and 1080i natively, which is better?  plain and simple, either 720p or 1080i period.

First of all i'm typing about Horizontal frequencies, not refresh rates.  Plus, all the refresh rate you'll see in 1080i (anything interlaced) is 30hz.
