Panasonic "tau" Tv Sets. Hd Or Not Hd
« on: October 15, 2005, 10:54:00 PM »

I have a 36inch Panasonic TAU tv, with rear component. I'm hearing many things that this tv doesnt not support anything over 1080i, meaning nothing progressive; anyone know anything about these tv's?? I'm afraid that i wont be able to handle 720p much less 480. And panasonic's website isnt being much help... Thanks guys!

I just bought a tau today. It does support 780p. What they mean by nothing over 1080i is that it will not support progressive in 1080. So, don't worry, it should be native 780p. If I'm wrong, somebody please feel free to correct me.
Do you have a model number?

Your TV (CT27SX11) is not HD it is just a high-end Standard Definition TV. It does not support 480p, 720p, or 1080i as you saw when you set your Xbox to 480p. Still a nice TV though.

Panasonic says none of the Tau support 720p just 1080i for the HD models so make sure you set your Xbox (or Xbox 360) to 480p and 1080i or you will not get a picture.

Not all Tau's are hd - I actually saw the non-HD version of my set at target clearanced too like $300 yesterday. Tau's are good tubes tho...
And yeah, it only supports 480p and 1080i, I can't even get 540p working through my pc. Have to say tho Half Life 2 Looks awsome @ 1080i.

Not all Tau's are HD... my Dad's isn't.

A safe measure of whether or not a TV is HDTV... check the bezel.  HDTV's have "HDTV" stamped on it.  I think it's required that HDTV's have that logo stamped on the face... at least in America.  I might be wrong about that tho.
