Which HDTV/Monitor Should I buy?

Unless you need the space, why pay $150 more for the slimfit 30" samsung when you can get the normal one for $750?  It is the exact same tv with the exact same inputs, only the thin one is 1/3 thinner.

As for actual performance, on curcuit city, the average customer rating is 4.4 out of 5, which is pretty good.

I will probably get something to that tv, and it doesn't need to be 1/3 thin anyways.

Fucking sweet my new viewsonics native resolution is 1280x1024. Only one ? will it be widescreen with black bars are will it be distorted to fit monitor? I would rather widescreen with a bit of the monitor not being used till I can get an hdtv.

I've never believed the geometry issues but the one on display in our department does have issues with the sides of the picture bowing inward...kinda looks like this.

ohmy.gif  <- my mouth hit the floor.  The ONLY problem I have with the TV is that the component selector isn't on the "source" button.   I have to go into config and select the component input.  But that's really minor as I never use anything but the component inputs!

As for the whole "why spend more on the slimmer one" question, twisted is correct.  This TV supports 720p natively (unusual for a CRT).  I believe this stems from the built in ATSC tuner which is worth $200+ outside the box.  You really can't get a better CRT for the price.  Especially if you have the Rewards program at BestBuy and purchase BestBuy gift cards on eBay for 85% face value.  I got this TV for roughly $700 when it first hit the street!  ($950 - 10% coupon - $170 saved buying giftcards on ebay = $685 + tax)  biggrin.gif

It's called "Pin-Cushioning" and that should be adjustable in the display options under "Pin Cushioning" or "Side Pin"

beerchug.gif   Want to tune mine with your ubiquitous fine tooth comb???  biggrin.gif   I set up the color and contrast with a THX disc, but I'm not very savvy with anything beyond that.
