Which HDTV/Monitor Should I buy?
« Reply #180 on: November 16, 2005, 03:35:00 PM »

Probably the wrong forum but I got a call from a friend that can get me a great deal on a Sony KDE42XS955. My bro has one but I have yet to try my original xbox so I dont know how it displays 720p on it. The native resolution is 1024X1024 it will do all formats (480i/p 720p and 1080i) should I go with this or go for DLP. I know about burn in and what not but the price is too good to pass up and I figure I can mount it on my wall over my 32" XBR ( which doesnt do 720p, but does 1080i) and I could use the plasma for x360 and dvds and the CRT for everything else. Any suggestions.

thanks,

go for the plasma, i have a 50" sony plasma and haven't had any burn in problems. just look around online and you'll find settings that make it less prone. (for example don't put your blacks and whites all the way up)

I was seriously thinking of getting a plasma but I rape the hell out of my tv's so burn in would most defintely happen.

So after I get my 360 I will most definetly buy either a DLP or LCD (whichever one looks best when I hook up the 360 to it)

The 1024x1024 plasma is an ALIS display which uses an interlaced format like a normal CRT. Now it does have great picture quality but not as good as say a high end Panasonic Viera or Pioneer PDP (that costs double or triple anyway).

Just a heads up there so you wont actually get progressive with 720p even though it supports it.

1024x1024 isn't even close to 720p......

it depends on what type of great deal its going to be....

and dlp way over lcd... and its easy to find a dlp that is native 720p.....

or wait a year and get 1080p native they have some but very expensive....

I thought people might like to know that according to samsung's website, Most TX-R series dynaflat HDTV's do 720p and 1080i natively.  So if you want a tube tv that does both, get a TX-R series.

Here is the link if you don't believe me,

anything 16ms or better is barely or not even noticable of any type of ghosting. Preferrably you want 12ms or better.
