Xbmc Will Not Start. I Have Searched!
« on: March 14, 2004, 07:19:00 PM »

Hey all, this is the first time I have had to post due to the existence of the search button! I have an xbox that has a homemade modchip. I bought it from a guy I worked with and just left it that way. I have done the TSOP/007 mod for a few xboxen, but not this one. I have a switch that goes between the original ms eeprom and the homemade IC chip that has about 30 wires soldered to the mainboard. I have the latest evox (3935) as my dash and have been using xbmp 2.4 up to now for media. I have had a few movies freeze up on xbmp that play fine on my freeBSD box with mplayer. That is why I am trying to get xbmc to work. I have searched the forums and deleted E:\UDATA\00face8 and E:\TDATA\00face8 every time I tried something different through boxexplorer and the msdash memory saves. The xbmc rar files  that I found did not come with skins. I found a couple of different skins to try and worked out a few errors with the xbmc.log file. I have tried 12-02-2004, as well as a few newer cvs updates. They all hang at the evolution x screen! I have tried also to turn of TSR and IGR. The xbmc.log file now reports no errors but still no go. Does the modchip matter for xbmc to work? How come evox and mxm and xbmp work when xbmc won't? Please help. Thanks in advance!  <

Here is the xbmc.log file of a completely new xbmc install. I added the language and skin directories to suffice those error in advance. the XboxMediacenter.xml file is untouched out of the rar file. I am not doing any smb or network shares. It seems fine, but will not get past the evolutionX screen.

nope, I tried that. I also tried putting it in E:\apps and F:\apps. I also tried modifying the XboxMediacenter.xml to have those paths as home, nothing has worked for me. maybe I should try a different version.  <

Check that your skin is intact; you should have the following:
xbmc\skin
xbmc\skin\mediacenter containing a number of .xml files
xbmc\skin\mediacenter\fonts containing a few .xpr files
xbmc\skin\mediacenter\media containing various image files and/or textures.xpr (textures.xpr requires a build from march).  <

Well, guys, I am ready to give up for a few days at least! I have tried everything above and am sick of seeing "delete 0face008"! I have tried numerous CVS versions and the unofficial 12-02-2004 release that is retail pathced for old modchips. Like I stated at first, I have a homemade modchip in thsi xbox. it uses the flash below in evox.ini. I have tried numerous skins and the one that comes with the builds, I alsway have to make the directories and put XboxMediaCenter.xml, default.xbe, keymap.xml in F:\apps\xbmc\, *.xml in F:\apps\xbmc\skin\MediaCenter and *.png,*.jpg, *.gif in F:\apps\xbmc\skin\MediaCenter\media and *.xpr in F:\apps\xbmc\skin\MediaCenter\fonts. It still just hangs! Any ideas or suggestions, questions, comments?

Start completly over.  Delete the xbmc folder, the 2 00face8 folders, and the files in the CACHE folder.  Then, reboot your xbox to your dash.

Currently, XBMC is in devlopment, and all skins don't work with it (they work with older versions).  So don't install any skins.

Then move the xbmc app flies over and give it another go.

In your log file above, it couldn't load the fonts for the skin.

Check you've got it installed correctly.  <
