Thieves Guild Help
« on: May 24, 2006, 03:57:00 PM »

OK sorry but I know this is going to be long...
I just finished the quest to get the Spring heel jack boots and go back to give them to Grey fox.
first time: I dropped the diary of the guy(imbel whatever?) pick it up and I get an update saying grey fox knew him
go to grey fox and have two choices 1 give boots 2 ask about how he knew him.  I choose to ask about how he knew him and he goes into this story, but when I try to talk to him again he just says he needs to think and my quest never gets complete.
second time:  so reload earlier save and try again this time i dont get the update about him knowing fox and I choose to give him the boots. quest completes,  but I cant move on in thieves guild, dont get the update about having fenced enough goods (I have over 1,000g fenced) waited like three in games days and grey foxx is still in the house and still says he needs time to think

anyone complete this? which option did you choose? do I just need to wait longer?

this is the last guild quest for me to finish and I want to finally start the main quest
thanks for any help

I think I chose to listen to his story. The Grey Fox gives you the boots back to use for the next quest anyway. Try waiting somewhere in the Imperial City. When I waited for his messenger to tell me where to meet him, I waited in the Market District of the Imperial City (by the crates near Red Diamond Jewelry). I never had to wait long, though. The messenger usually came by around 3am on the day I waited. One day is too long to wait. Three days waiting is ludicrous.

When the next quest does activate, I suggest you not equip the boots near the end. You won't die from the fall. After I used them for the large jump I had to make, I left them unequipped because I wanted to wear boots with better defense. When I didn't die from the fall with regular boots, I reloaded my save and tried it with Jak's boots. Jak's boots were removed from my inventory as I hit the ground. Since I didn't die and my regular boots didn't "break," I reloaded again and kept Jak's boots off. I use them quite a bit when walking outdoors. They're great even if your acrobatics skill is high, but they're much better if it's low.

That's pretty much what happened to me my first play through the game.

Search the forums, it's a pretty well known glitch.
