I'm still pretty early in the game but so far most of my time has been spent building my blade, light armor, acrobatics, and blocking skills. Most of my magic based skills are SEVERELY lacking. I've been going through the mages quest and I can't even use most of the spells or scrolls I'm given.

I've got some basic spells in most of the disciplines but I don't have anything for conjure. I'd really like to make a cheap conjure spell that I can cast a lot to boost that skill.

similarly I have lots of stones but no soul capture spells and I'd really like to start enchanting my equipment.

I have access to the spell alter but I couldn't seem to find any options for creating these types of spells (maybe I'm blind)

If anyone could give me some pointers on who I talk to to buy/receive/create a few of these types of spells that would be awesome!

Conjuration spells are sold in Chorrel (sp?) and you can get Soul Trap at either Edgars Discount Spells or The Mystic Emporium, both in the Imperial Market District.

If you are a part of the Arcane University an easy way to get your Conjuration up is to just get any bound item spell, cast it once, and since you then have the ability go make a spell that is "Bound Item 1 sec on Self"  It will require little to no Magicka to use so just sit there and cast it over and over and over.  You will be casting a Conjuration spell like once every 2 seconds so your skill will FLY up.  You can simply just keep clicking the Right Bumper as you are running about doing your errands and you will be leveling up as you go.  Hah now I don't even have to do any dirty work myself, just summon a Frost Astronatch (sp?) to do it for me (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Most conjure spells are in Chorrel but i would also go to skingrad, there one person there sells the storm Astronatch, and also in the University the same building as the spell making alters, theres a guy his name starts with B. He sell some master conjure spells.

The way i got mine to 100 was go into a building conjure as many creaturs as possible. When you run out of magicka hit back to wait 1 hour conjure some more and wait some more. by the way is there anyway to get destruction up faster?

I figured out a way to get destruction, restoration, and conjuration up at once. It's also the only way I figured out how to get destruction up.

Cast a conjur spell to summon a demon. I use a zombie, but just don't conjur something that will kill you in no time. You can then cast destruction spells on the demon. After the second hit the demon will fight you. Just continue to fight the demon until the time is up (conjur for 20 secs, my longest is 40 sec). Then after the demon is dead/disappeared you can use restoration spells and then do it all over again.

In short

1 summon demon
2 cast destruction spells at demon
3 use restoration

I'm a mage and have I think all but Alchemy and one other skill at 100% by doing this.

Also as someone else said, you can just run around and cast spells while your walking around. Note that that only works with certain skills though.

And also, as a mage I found myself getting my ass kicked because I had no power moves or anything to fight with. I built my conjur up and then got summons for the Champ Skeleton, Deadra Spider, Frost Arch, Flame Arch, and some crocidile thingy. Needless to say, most are no longer a match, I just summon Frost and bashes any thing for me.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I've been doing the cheap 1 magica spells while I run around for a while now, got my restore, mysticism and illusion up that way. Destruction is hard to do because they don't really like it when you walk around throwing fireballs everywhere  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

I've also found that you can simply eat a whole bunch of ingredients to up your alchemy. You have to eat a LOT, I think about 50 or 60 items will bump you a point. But if you have a few hundred of something you can just sit there tapping A in your menu to eat and watch it rise.

So for destrution do i have to hit somthing with my spell or just use it??

I think destruction is like weapons, you have to hit something or at least be near an enemy (you'll know with the musical queues, inability to wait or fast travel, etc).

Also Alteration spells like the open very easy lock, MUST be cast on a door that is locked, the door will glow green when it's hit.

On another note I STILL CANT FIND SOUL TRAP SPELLS  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)  I went to the Corral Mages Guild, Edgar's Discount Spells, the Mystic Emporium, and talked to the guy at the Arcane University.

The ONLY conjuration spell I could buy and actually use was bound dagger from Edgar's Discount Spells, I took it used it and made a cheaper version with the spell maker, and using that got my Conjure skill up into the 30s (from 8 originally  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif))

But I still can't find a soul trap spell ANYWHERE, I even hit up the first few people listed here: http://es4.titoafric.com/spells.pl?type=1&id=241  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)
I'm already an Apprentice in Mysticism so I shouldn't have any problems using it.

I DID manage to find a few Grand Soul Gems with Greater Souls inside of them, so I got started, but it'd be better if I could capture my own.

You actually get a lot more alchemy points by using those ingredients to make potions.  The potions can also be  more beneficial to you and the are worth more and weigh less than all the ingredients used in it combined.  I don't know however if the extra experience you receive making positions offsets the speed of just eating ingredients.

If none of those NPC's appear to have soul trap for sale, I'd venture to say you already have it! I have a faint faint memory of it being given to me during a mage guild quest or something, but that may just be reconstructive memory.

Some spells are given to you autmatically depending on what birthsign and race you chose.  I got mine free by default.  You can buy them at the guild shops but the only difference is that some last longer or in a bigger radius.  As long as you kill the target in the specified time, you are golden.  Also remember, you can cast the soul trap again if it wears off before you finish killing.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I definitely don't have it, my character is mainly a Mele fighter, no majors in anything magic really (Argonian Bard, under the Shadow birthsign)
I only started with 4 things
-WaterBreathing (because I'm an Argonian)
-Invisibility (because I was born under the Shadow)
-Heal Minor Wound
-Flare

Waterbreathing isn't even something I cast it's just always on, every other spell I have I've purchased and I've only purchased 4 or 5 to help build my magic in the different disciplines.

I didn't exhaust that list I only checked the first 3 or 4 names, I'll try the rest next chance I get to play. Just getting really frustrated with this.

60 coins isn't too bad and it's the one I use.  You'll just have to make sure your Mysticism is leveled up to Apprentice.  That should be easy enough though.

Of course, you'll need lots of soul gems...

is the list of people I was talking about, I talked to the first 3 or 4 on there and none of them had it (the list of spells didn't even match the one on that website, only vaguely)
