something tells me that if you can't speak with any merchants and have no idea how to get lock picks or even get past a locked door... you have bigger problems then finding grand soul gems.

The very first thing you do in the game is go through the sewers.  When I came out of the sewers, I had like 50 something lockpicks.  You can pick up lockpicks from bandit caves.  Also, join the theives guild and you can buy them from the guy in the thieves guild that gives you jobs. Also, you can complete the quest for the skeleton key.  All of these are your options.

Oh, and nice touch calling the head moderator an asshole.  He wasn't being mean.  He was inferring to your lack of patience/exploration.

I've never played Morrowind and I'm only a level 5 in Oblivion. You should have finished the requisite training level with a plethora of lock picks as well as an understanding of how to use them.

I have no tolerance for people who post questions expecting spoon-fed answers because they're too lazy to just look in the sticky or simply lurk about the forum (both actions would have earned you the answers to your questions). Heck if you spent time playing the game and talking to NPCs/exploring caves you might have found the answer there too.

Finally both swearing and antagonizing the staff is explicitly against the rules here (which I assume you didn't read due to your lack of having read the sticky or paid attention to the tutorial level of the game). The latter of which is a ban-able offense. For the record if that had been against another member you would have a mute right now.

I should hope this embarrassment is enough to get you to just pay attention and look around. We're not here to serve you. If you have something useful to add to the situation then please do so, but DO NOT expect people to just hand you all the answers.

I'd recommend you start by reading the instruction manual that came with your game, followed by the sticky in this thread, and if you STILL have questions, lurk about the thread to see if anyone else has already asked it. If not THEN you can post a new topic, and when you do try to be more descriptive with your problem. It's easier to solve if all the elements are presented up front.

Well you should take his 'condescending remarks' into consideration. Take the game slower, man. Don't get in over your head (forgive me if this is offensive too). It's amazing how many people think this is a pick up and play game. Sure, it is to an extent (moreso than Morrowind), but we can easily tell who's taking their time with the game and who's getting in over their head (running into numerous problems along the way). I find this game very simple, which isn't because I knew about the game for months before release, but because I've played it for a bit. I played Morrowind, and Oblivion is very, very different. A lot of us here have little to no experience with Morrowind, yet we can still understand how to play.

I've run into many little problems, but I work them out in the game with a smile on my face. Sometimes I take a break from the quest, and other times I find the solution fairly quickly. I had things like unlocking doors and persuading npcs down in my books very quickly. If you don't know how to do these things, then it somewhat proves that you aren't really playing much of this game, but, as I said, getting in over your head wth quests that require you to do so, for with experience comes knowledge. Knowledge is required for many things in this game, one being successfully opening a door.

You get lockpicks in caves, fences in the thieves guild, and from bandit corpses.
If you are having trouble speaking to NPCs, learn how to. I started the game not knowing, but 5 minutes through I figured out how the persuasion minigame works (Big quarters are for good reaction spots, small quarters are for bad reaction spots).
Buy a beguiling spell or scroll (a spell effect that makes people temporarily like you more) if you wanna get past the numerous npcs.

dude...oblivion really isnt that hard to comprehend...its unbeleivably easy...and i can say that seeing as it took very little time to do..well..any quest except one, which i have accepted as impossible because nobody ive ever talked to that plays that game has beaten the quest..
