Umbras Sword
« on: April 02, 2006, 10:39:00 AM »

Umbras sword is great and all (I don't even keep it charged), but why is it so gosh-darned ugly? I mean, there are no shaders on it and it has no shape to it either (paper-thin blade and the fact that the handguard (the part above the handle) is a 3-polygon cylinder).

Is it using it's Morrowind mesh & textures for easter-egg joke purposes?  wink.gif

Serious question, btw. tongue.gif

how much does it weigh and whats its damage rating?

I got sick of carrying heavy ass swords around that weigh 50 and 65 lbs(even though I can carry up to 809 lbs), so I now carry daedric daggers, 3 of them, enchanted by myself that do massive damage.

If its not a 62lb bastard sword, how and where do I go about getting it?

AT around level 75-ish blade (as I recall), it does 20 dmg. It is worth around 5500 gold pieces and weighs nothing. That's right, nothing. You know why? Because it's a 'quest item'. I don't know for what quest, but, since all quest items weigh nothing, the Umbra is no exception. You also cannot take it out of your inventory or sell it.

Go south of the imperial city and skim the bottom road side to side and you'll find the ayleid ruin called VINDASEL. Yes, the cave of bad acting.

Ive been in that cave, I was just in it yesterday, one of the 100 Ive found just walking around. Nothing in there except for baddies wearing armor that got me 6,000 gold smile.gif

anyone know/remember what quest it is?

EDIT: #3 in the following list is the quest supposedly(doesnt mention the sword though in #3, I'll give it a try later smile.gif Match #3 on the map below in that link.

It may not be for any quest (I still have 'blade of woe'. What do I do with it? Perhaps nothing), but you cant be for sure. Bethesda may just not want you to lose it if you sell it stupidly for the cash at early levels.

I heard you gotta be level 20 at least (I think I got the umbra at 15, but I could be mistaken), so check it out again. Actually, re-do all of the dungeons you've done BEFORE you were level 20 - they reset to let you collect the new loot. And if you are like me, my friend, we love our loot.

Im getting to the point of not needing $$, so if its armor and other things I wont use, I leave it on the corpses. I even bought the 5,000 haunted house, and spent another 3,000 furnishing that shack to complete the quest, and still have over 80,000. and thats after Ive spent a lot enchanting everything in my inventory. Ive gone into the same caves several times on accident and I get sick of it, Im always on the hunt for a new one(which isnt hard 2 find in this game!)

you *found* blade of woe?

I thought that wasnt possible?

It was given to me by a certain person in order to join a certain gang  ohmy.gif

I never said I found it, and I know that it's a dark brotherhood item, but you can't get rid of it (as far as I'm concerned -- I haven't gotten too far in the db), which is probably the case with the umbra.

^^^
follow that guide

do
3:Clavicus Vile: Masque of Clavicus Vile - +20 personality helmet, 20
and you get the sword then, you can give it to him and get the mask or keep it, but if you keep it its considered a quest item and cant be removed from your inventory.  There's a map showing the location of each shrine also.

From the bolded, I gathered you found it because you dont know what to do with it. If you were approached by the brotherhood speaker, you werent paying attention because it shows he gave it to you and what to use it for.

as for Umbras sword, the #3 red dot on that map is NOT in the right area for Vindasal. Thats close to where Ceyatatar is(the nastiest ruins dungeon Ive gone into thus far, the baddies were hard and there were tons of them, and it was guarded by deadra spiders, frost atronachs, trolls, and bears. I knew after I beat them that this was a major dungeon, why else would so many creatures be guarding it. I made $$ on that one, I got about 12,000 for everything I sold in that one dungeon alone.

Vindasel is almost directly under the imperial waterfront if im not mistaken, its not further west by Ceyatatar.

Ah, yes, it's beneath the waterfront. I forgot the name of it (I keep calling it waterworks - ala Morrowind), so I just said south of the Imperial city.

And, as I said, I know I got the dagger from the Dark brotherhood, but I don't know what to do with it (wasn't paying attention).

Sorry.

the red dot on the map doesnt indicate where the cave of vin diesel is, I read it wrong, it shows where the th shrine is.

I didnt see the wordd shrine being mentioned, so Im running around the woods looking for some fuck named Clavicus, lol

I just accepted the quest so we shall see what happens.

Is it my understanding that you get the sword if you hand over a helmet? or vice versa? whats going on with that?

If I keep the sword the quest wont be completed? Looks like Im handing the sword over, I cant stand loose ends !  jester.gif

some day Ill start the main quest line! I swear it!

I'm pretty sure that you hand over the strongest sword for a helm that makes people like you a bit more. I'll take the incomplete quest over a personality-helm any day. That helm sat in my beach house in Morrowind forever. Untouched.
