You can go ahead and level up. There are creatures that are going to become easier. For me rats die in a single swing now and I can hit a wolf with an arrow or two and it will drop. Leveling up won't hurt you. Of course you can keep working and they will stack. When you finally do sleep you will level the correct amound and the point modifiers will be correct for each level based on what you worked on between those levels.

As far as leveling goes, I reccommend holding off a bit each time you're ready to level.  The reason being that the more times you level up each individual skill, the higher the multiplier is on their governing attribute.  You'll understand once you level up.

As far as Oblivion goes, I still haven't closed my first gate.  I reccommend just going around and doing bunches of quests first.  Oblivion monsters are not easy.  Once you enter the tower you'll be fighting groups of somewhere around 2 Flame Atronachs and a Dremora.

It's really tough to explain here.  When you sleep and you level, you'll be able to choose 3 attributes to level up.  These are called governing attributes.  Each skill has a governing attribute.  When you level up a skill, it adds a fraction of a multiplier to your governing attribute.  When you choose your attributes to level, there is a number next to it like "+2".  The more times you level a skill, the higher the multiplier on that skill's governing attribute will be.

i.e.

If you level up your Blade skill somewhere around 5 times while you are level 8, when you level up to level 9 your strength attribute will have a "+5" Multiplier.

If you level up your Security skill somewhere around 6 times while you are level 8, when you level up to level 9 your agility attribute will have a "+3" Multiplier.

I'm not 100% sure on the numbers, it whould explain it in the manual somewhere.  Oblivion is definetely a game where I would reccommend reading the manual first.

Just another side note, I don't think it hurts to hold off on the whole sleeping thing.  When I'm in a town, I usually wait until dark when all the shops are closed before I go to sleep.  I noticed that after waiting a while after being told to "meditate" and then going to sleep, I got my level up and my multipliers, then I decided to try to go to sleep for another hour right after waking up, and I got another level up with multipliers.  So I don't think you lose anything by waiting, all of your level up's and multipliers are there waiting for when you go to sleep the next time.

Level up.

If the only skill you raise during a level is, for example, Alteration at 20 times, then you can level up twice.

If you are 'ready to level up', you can still train for your NEXT level. Skill levels aren't wasted as in morrowind since you can only get to a certain level in Oblivion.

ok, easiest way this is explained is in a power leveling thread on Gamefaqs...

http://boards.gamefa...27088945&page=1

kinda hard to grasp at first, but in short...

when you level up, your multiplier for that stat, will be the number of times you leveled a skill divided by 2, with a max of +5.

 huh.gif  you say?

ok... basically you want to get that plus 5, or as close as possible... so what you do, is level up a specific skill or several that have the same STAT (ie strength, etc) from your MINOR skills, 10 times, giving you a +5 when you do level up (minors dont go towards leveling up) then after you get the 10 levels in your minor, go for 10 skill levels of a similar STAT in your major, once you level up, pick the two +5 stats, and luck.

try to do as best you can to follow that if you want a beast character, im already level 16 and just found this out... and have been getting +2 multipliers which are crap... but im still having fun.. maybe if i start a new character i might do this "power leveling" but not now.

hope that helps

I highly doubt anything I meet at a gate will die that quickly.

For shits sake the damn timberwolves are harder now. Black bears take forever to kill. If gate monsters are a lot easier, something is flawed with this game.

Minotaurs are nasty too, damn those things to hell and back.
