Oblivion Preview

Gamespoy posted their preview of The Elder Scrolls (the PC version). The game, if nothing else, is one of the best looking games the guys over at Gamespy have ever played. Of course, the game gets nothing but a rave review, which is exactly what everyone has been saying so far. Check it out nonetheless, if for no other reason than to hold you off until the Xbox360 release.

So what is this game like / about ? I have never played any of the elder scrolls before but I keep hearing more and more and more great stuff about this game. Whats the point of it? Is it a free roam type game? I need a new game to play. Something that will hold my attention for a while. The pictures and such look pretty good. Is it like everquest type game without the online ?

your pretty close really.  its not really like an MMO in the sense that it does have a main story line that does end eventually but it does have characters everywhere and is huge.  to answer your question, this could be the ultimate free roam game, where you can do just about anything you can think of.  whatever you do contributes to that skill, so if you want to be good at the bow & arrow use it a lot and you will be, if you want to be the ultimate wizard type character learn alchemy and work with your spells.  you can walk around for hours and just interact with the various things in the environment from the characters to over 9000 objects in the world.  dont feel like walking?  buy a horse and ride that around town.  if you have access to a xbox i suggest you look for morrowind, the prequal to oblivion and while its not in the same league (graphics or gameplay) it still gives a good idea to how much freedom you will be given in oblivion and its a damn good game to boot.  so yes it will be a damn good new type of game that will hold your attention for a very long time (put over 300 hours in morrowind and its only 1/4 the size of oblivion)

Oblivion continues to impress us with its lavishly crafted visuals, which seem to retain the same fidelity on the Xbox 360 that we've seen in previously released media taken from the PC version. The frame rate was consistent if a little choppy in the build we played, though Bethesda has plenty of time to continue optimizing in advance of the game's release in late March. We'll bring you further details before that time.
