Quake 4 Lag
« on: November 23, 2005, 10:07:00 PM »

I dunno if any1 else has noticed some framerate issues yet with any games, I have noticed the opening bits in Fable The Lost Chapters Does get jumpy like skiping an shit, tho i was like w/e this is an emulation, and updates may follow for this...

But then during a shootout in Quake 4 with a mounted Turrett Gun on a transport Vehicle, It lost sync with audio an the gun sound(shots being fired) became inconsistance, and i noticed a slight hit on the framerate, this happened minorly when i had 3 guys with me and were all busting out the rounds and we prolly had about 4-5 enemies not sure witch kinds if ur curious

Like I'm pretty used 2 dealing with this on my PC while trying to Max the settings of High End Games, but when i saw this on my 360 i became horrified a little as I expected the game 2 be optimized for the 360(quake 4, not fable) as all systems would contain the same specs, i'm kinda hoping for a Update on this game to help solve this issue, but it is at best a minor annoyance

The game is NOT optimized for the 360. Its a simple port of the pc version, nothing more nothing less. Im very far in the game, well I seem 2 be and I havent suffered any stuttering. If I do, I surely wont complain. I wasn't expecting this game to play and look as good as it does.

Just goes to show all those here that bitched and moaned at the videos and how bad they said it looked.....The end product is stellar. 'Nuff said

Well I didn't mean Optimized like "built from the Ground up" on the 360, but so some sort of slew of testing like pushig limits in game to cause the system to lag, then scale down in less noticable ways till it gets reasonable, just enough to avoid any ingame lag that happens during not so intensive battles, i mean they did a pretty darn good job with the Doom3 Games when they ported them to the XBOX, so i just figured that they would go through the same process, I'm not sure what tho, but at heart yea it is a Ported Game, so this is what ya get, not fully optimized to push boundries, plus shit i guess it's a launch game, and there first run in with the 360, doubt we'll see this all that much in the future

Thats where your misinformed...

Doom III was Not a port. It was built from the ground up for the xbox and the gpu, and it took more than 2 years to get it to play at that level. They found some back doors within the geforce which allowed  for much more efficiency. They also added Coop, and made rooms and halls wider, something the PC didnt have originally.

And not only that, 2 different companies did the games. If Vicarious Visions was handed the reigns for Quake 4, you would have probably gotten what you want. Blame Raven, they did the Q4 "port".

I have noticed alot of post on many boards about the quake 4 framerate issue.
It makes me wonder. Does the XBOX360 support Patching/Patches for games like the pc does vi xbox live? I know many games support "Downloadable Content" and it says that quake4 is one of thoes games. So in theory would an Update Patch be possiable in the form of downloadable content to fix issues like this?

I take it you don't have Live  :P

Yes, games get updates/patches all the time via Live, there is No "theory" about it. Games have been patched for 3 years as needed(Lives already been around for that long).

Happy Turkey day!

Yeps i do not have live hehe :)

Thats good to know, But i have a question. How often do games get patched for issues such as this? I could see them patching glitches that would grant players an unfair advantage, or overflow type attacks. But for speed related issues how often do they do that if ever? I just hope that they will becuase in the eyes of alot of the public, i worry for MS as this might make the 360 look "weak" in the eyes  of people that are not aware of how porting works.

This is just what happens when you buy glitched systems...wait a month prob. more for the newer updated systems to come out and hopefully you have a warranty.G/L:evil:

You lost me hehe

I think the reason quake 4 has slowdown is because of rushed porting and not anything to do with "glitched systems". I just hope they fix it, as not everyone has a harddrive anymore(but i think 90% of people bought premium systems) so where do core system owners store patches?.

i think that the majority of the uninformed public who doesnt know how porting work wont even notice any issues the 360 version has because of the quick port.

for example, at walmart when i played the demos they looked like ass compared to the final product and still the games drew crowds around me with the "uninformed public"  oooOOOing and aaahhhhing over the graphics stating how real and good they looked, and their jaws dropped in disbelief when i said these games were unfinished and that future 360 games would kill these graphics.  good or bad the public who doesnt know any better are easier to be pleased and impressed.
