Perfect Dark Zero Co-op Help

On level 9 of the PD0 co-op mode, there is an area near the end where you have to steal a jetpack.  Once stolen, I fly across the bridge.  My question is, how can I get my partner over there with me and what about the rescued pilot.  Playing last night, I went across with the jetpack and was killed.  My body went back across the bridge to be healed by my partner, but the jetpack did not.  So there we were at the bridge with no jetpack to get across.  

Has anyone experienced this before>

We are playing in Perfect Mode.
