Dvd Quality
« on: February 25, 2004, 09:49:00 PM »

I'm using the 02/01 copy of xbmc and i've noticed after using it for the first time that if i don't touch any of the settings, my .avi files on the HDD play perfectly, but if i play original DVDs the video quality is AWFUL.

So, in an attempt to counter that i turned off post-processing in the filters menu and the video was much more clear.  Problem with that is, i occasionally get pixelated blocks in random spots of the screen.  the more intense the video to more random pixelation occurs.

Is there any way to fix this?    <

You bumped this after only 1 hour?

Talk about impatient.

Have you tried to Smooth?

gt07:
You did bump it rather early. And DVD playback isn't completley finished yet, so it wouldn't be perfect.
And for future, when someone gives you an answer don't talk down on them (especially a member of the XBMC team, which tslayer is).

I was at work, and didn't notice the time difference.

In any case, did you try Smooth in Settings?

TS, sorry bud, i hadn't intended to come off as condescending.

I'm not quite sure what you meant by smooth but I did click "soften" which is under the settings->screen menu.  After clicking that, i am still getting the same blocky pixel glitches.    <

Have you disabled all post processing?

He already mentioned that he turned off post-processing in his first post :)

Nobody seems to be awake today ;)

Unfortunately the simple fact is that since dvd playback is at at very alpha/beta state there's not much you can do about any playback problems. If it doesn't work well it doesn't work well. Best to use dvdx or hacked ms player.  <

Sorry, missed that point. What I've done (just for ideas), is modified the MS Dash so that when I press stop while the DVD player is in standby (when stop has already been pressed), it displays a custom image telling me to press play to resume or stop to go to XBMC. Then I've set XBMC to launch the modified MS Dasah (region free too) when I press the play dvd button.

Works for me. The custom image allows me to make it look a part of XBMC also (however only for the skin of my choosing)
